Library used book sale
The Friends of the Bitterroot Public Library Used Book Sale will be Wednesday September 21 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursday and Friday, September 22 and 23 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday, September 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the downstairs meeting room at the Bitterroot Public Library, 306 State Street, Hamilton. The price for all items is $1 per inch thick. Saturday all day will be the ever-popular Bag Sale when all the items that can be stuffed in a grocery bag are $3 per bag – bring your own bags or they will be provided. Another popular feature of the book sale is free books all week long on the sidewalk. On Saturday after 2 p.m. there will be a Truckload Sale – $15 per load! Bring your own truck and load it up! A silent auction of special books will end on Friday at 5 p.m. All proceeds from the book sale go to benefit the Bitterroot Public Library. For information contact the library at 363-1670.
BEAR program
BEAR (Bitterroot Ecological Awareness Resources), a local non-profit organization providing outdoor-based mentoring programs to school children, youth-in-need and other community members, will be having a community event and slideshow to recognize the past year of service to youth on Wednesday, September 21 starting at 7 p.m. at 1105 W. Main, Hamilton. There will be dessert and lots of games as well as tours of the BEAR facilities, followed by youth recognition awards and a slideshow of all of BEAR’s activities over the past year. Come learn more about the organization and help support the youth who have engaged in their community and environment this year. The event will take place rain or shine, with the slideshow taking place outdoors if weather permits, or indoors in case of rain. All community members are welcome.

Stevensville history program
“A Time To Remember,” a free program at the Stevensville Playhouse, will be presented on Wednesday, September 21 at 7 p.m. This program will feature stories and music depicting the history of Stevensville. All are welcome.

Hour of Babel at the Library
Discussion on the topic, “What political system is best equipped to deal with current global problems?” will be on Thursday September 22, from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Community Room of the North Valley Public Library, Stevensville. This is the second in a series of respectful discussions and dialog on a variety of topics and ideas hosted by Scott Butler. Participants agree on a specific topic for discussion and each person is given equal right to contribute. Hear your neighbors’ views and gain a deeper understanding on topics in this roundtable. The idea of the forum is to enjoy interesting conversation and hear different viewpoints. The Library’s Hour of Babel is in reference to the Biblical Tower of Babel. People spoke different languages and were unable to understand each other. You may wish to contribute ideas for future discussions. North Valley Public Library is located at 208 Main Street, Stevensville.
Victor Park District
The next meeting of the Victor Park District will be on Thursday September 22 at 7 p.m. in Farmers State Bank meeting room in Victor. There will be discussion of a fall work day for the parks, status of the grant applications for the new restroom, and summarizing the summer’s activities. The public is welcome. Equinox at Labyrinth
Celebrate the Autumn Equinox on Thursday, September 22 at 7:30 p.m. at Redsun Labyrinth, west of Victor. Stevensville Town Council
The Stevensville Town Council will meet Thursday, September 22 at 7 p.m. at the town hall, 206 Buck Street.
Discussion/decision items include: presentation by Paul O’Bagy on Stevensville Airport operational costs; Resolution No. 392, authorizing the transfer of General Fund Reserves; Resolution No. 391, adopting 2016/17 Fiscal Policies; allowing Park Board to continue working on various issues such as the pool, the Lewis & Clark Park bathroom, and River Park; setting a Public Hearing date on proposed land exchange between Roy Capp and the Town and the development of a Fishing Access Site by MT Fish, Wildlife and Parks; setting a Public Hearing date on proposed termination of the Water/Sewer Reduced Rate Program; and setting a Public Hearing date on proposed termination of contract with Ravalli County Recycling, to name a few.

Smart Driver Class
An AARP Smart Driver Class (Driver Safety) will be presented on Friday, September 23 at Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital, 1200 Westwood Drive in Hamilton. The class starts at 9 a.m. and lasts approximately four hours. While this safe driving strategies class is designed for drivers age 50 and over, all drivers are welcome. The class fee is $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-members. There are no written exams or driving tests. Montana mandates an insurance discount for qualified graduates. Stevensville Founders Day
September 24, 2016 will mark the 175th anniversary of the date missionaries from St. Louis arrived in the Bitterroot Valley in response to repeated requests by Salish tribal leaders. The site of their historic meeting became Stevensville, the first pioneer settlement in the future state of Montana. Stevensville and the Salish will commemorate the date, in conjunction with the annual Montana Historical Society Conference, with reenactments, exhibits, demonstrations, student events and other special activities including the burying of a time capsule, dedication of the Salish Encampment on the grounds, and a special pictorial postmark provided by the U.S. Postal Service.
The Commemoration Program will take place on Saturday, September 24 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Historic St. Mary’s Mission in Stevensville. The public is welcome. Lunch will be available. St. Mary’s Parish Mass

Bike Walk Bitterroot event
Join Bike Walk Bitterroot and farms around the Bitterroot Valley in celebrating the diversity of agriculture and cycling access in our community at a cycling adventure on Sunday, September 25 at 11 a.m. This event will support Bike Walk Bitterroot’s efforts to make our community a safe and accessible place to walk and bike as well as support local food and celebrate our agricultural heritage.
Ride starts at 11 a.m. from the Western Agriculture Research Center (WARC) at 580 Quast Lane, Corvallis (parking available).
The thirty-five mile ride will include stops at four Bitterroot farms where riders will enjoy food and drink produced from locally grown vegetables, fruits and livestock. Participating farms include Emanuel Vineyards, Mill Crick Farm, Tucker Family Farms and Frost Top Orchards. The ride will conclude at WARC with more food, libations and music. $50 for the ride and local fare. All proceeds benefit Bike Walk Bitterroot. To register go to bikewalkbitterroot.org. Fish & Wildlife Assn.
The general meeting of the Ravalli County Fish & Wildlife Association will be held on Monday, September 26 at 7 p.m. at the Daly Leach Meeting Room, 1010 W. Main St. in Hamilton. Guest speaker will be Bob Inman, one of the leading wolverine experts in North America. Bob is currently the Fur Bearer coordinator with FWP. Prior to that Bob worked on the Yellowstone Wolverine Project for the Wildlife Conservation Society. Bob will give a presentation on research findings done on one of the most comprehensive wolverine studies ever done. Meetings are open to the general public. Republican Women
Ravalli County Republican Women’s Club will hold its monthly meeting and lunch on Tuesday, September 27 at 11:30 a.m. at BJ’s Restaurant in Hamilton. Guest speakers will be State Senator Pat Connell and State Senator Fred Thomas who is up for re election SD45. They will be talking about their Interim Committees and the upcoming Legislative Session.
Blood drive
A Red Cross blood drive will be held Tuesday, September 27 from 10 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. at Victor High School, 425 4th Avenue, Victor.
First Aid & Trauma Seminar
A first aid and trauma seminar will be held Tuesday, September 27 at 7 p.m. at Hamilton Ionic Lodge #38, 115 S. 3rd Street.
This is open to the public at no charge and will be presented by Lt. Colonel, Dr. Sam Urso, Montana National Guard, U.S. Army Reserve combat trauma physician with three tours of duty in the Middle East and currently an emergency physician at Marcus Daly Hospital. The focus of the seminar will be on hunters, families and all of us that enjoy our Montana outdoors. Dr. Urso will cover the following topics: basic first aid, treatment of trauma injuries, having the correct first aid supplies, what is the proper procedure, and, maybe more importantly how can you stabilize the injured person until medical care is available.
