Planned Stevi airport project good for town

July 19, 2016 by Guest Post

By Craig E. Thomas, Chair, Stevensville Airport Board

32S has received a grant from to FAA for the improvement of our, the Town of Stevensville, Montana, airport. The improvements include resurfacing and widening of the existing runway, a new taxiway, a new automated weather observation station, replacement of the old PAPI, and other improvements.
We are excited that after many years of planning our facility has been approved for these improvements. Many thanks are due to the many hundreds of volunteer hours and considerable efforts that has made this possible. Certain folks have basically dedicated their efforts for the improvement of 32S. We appreciate the FAA and Morrision Maierle, Inc, our engineer firm, support and enthusiasm in making this one of the safest airports in the state. We are proud of our airport.
The airport board and town look forward to many improved interactions with our local businesses and the community. The funds for this project took many years to save from airport user and business fees, and we would have not been able to complete the project without the FAA interaction and funding options. Knife River is the project construction firm, and we look forward to their normal excellent performance. Thanks to all.
The Stevensville airport is located approximately 3 miles north and east of the town’s business district which has a main street located very close to where Lewis, Clark and crew walked a few years ago. The identifier is 32S, the CTAF is 122.8, the elevation is 3610 feet MSL, and the LOC is 46-31.5N 114-03.1W. We have 100LL SS 24hr CC, and major repairs for small aircraft and helicopters.
Please fly to our airport and visit our nice town where Montana began. We have charter firms ready to take you where you need to go, teach you to fly, or fix your aircraft. Try a trip into the Backcountry airstrips which scenery is awesome. Be sure to circle St. Mary’s peak it’s so cool.
And remember, if you eat downtown—order the airport burrito and bring an appetite!
