The young Stevensville softball team ran into some troubles against Corvallis. There were moments of great fielding but the team struggled with pitching and hitting. Stevensville has only two seniors on the team. In fact, the 14 freshmen outnumber the rest of the team combined.
Corvallis pitcher Kayla Fields allowed only two hits in the 13-1 win. Corvallis had 10 hits including two doubles by Bobbi Stephen but it was passed balls and bobbled catches that allowed the Blue Devils to score four runs in the third inning. Kambrey Powell also had two RBIs and went 1-for-2 in the five-inning game.
Florence also ran into late game problems in both of their games against St. Ignatius. In the first game, Florence had a one-run lead heading into the top of the seventh. But four home runs in that inning by the Bulldogs gave them the lead and shook the confidence of relief pitcher Shay Waldbillig. The Falcons could not recover and lost, 17-12. Jewell Zeiler had a triple and a double and knocked in five runners. She was 2-for-4 at bat. Chloe Arthur went 3-for-4. Natalie Dulac was 2-for-5 with two RBIs.
In the Falcons’ second game against Mission, Sarah Schurg was the pitcher until the seventh inning when Shannon Byrne took over. Florence again started strongly and scored two runs in each of the first three innings. But Mission came back and took the lead with three runs scored in the final inning. Although Florence knocked in one run, it was not enough and they fell, 8-7. Dulac and Arthur each had a homer and each knocked in a runner. Waldbillig had a double and was 1-for-4 at bat.
Polson topped Hamilton 11-7 in non-conference action. Mallory McGill went 1-for-4 with a home run and 2 RBIs. Brooke Huxtable went 3-for-3 and Rachael Ringer went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Sky Lopez was the pitcher for Hamilton.
Corvallis also lost to Polson, 14-0.
Stevensville topped Whitefish, 13-3, in six innings. Haley Kampka was the winning pitcher with Dani Trangmoe catching. The Yellowjackets had five runs in the fourth inning and four runs in the sixth inning. They only had one error. Mikayla Newman went 3-for-5. Callie Lendman was perfect at bat hitting 3-for-3. Abby Austin went 2-for-3.
