The Florence softball team opened their season with a loss and a win over two Western B teams. Florence opened against Ronan who finished second in the state B tournament last year. Ronan jumped out to an early lead and then went on to win, 6-2.
Sarah Schurg was the pitcher for the Lady Falcons and Shay Waldbillig caught. Chloe Arthur had a triple and was 1-for-3. Freshman Shannon Byrne went 3-for-4, as did Natalie Dulac. Dulac had an RBI for Florence. All-stater Carston Rhine was the winning pitcher for Ronan.
Florence then took on Eureka later Saturday afternoon. Byrne was the pitcher for Florence with Dulac catching. Eureka scored three runs in the first inning but that would be the last they scored. Florence came on with four runs in the first and then continued the barrage, finishing with 17 runs scored. Dulac and Kayli Leibenguth each had doubles. Dulac went 1-for-2 with four RBIs. Leibenguth was also 1-for-2. Byrne went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Jewel Zeiler batted 1-for-1 with a triple and three RBIs. Destini Greer was also 1-for-1 with an RBI.
Stevensville was edged by Dillon, 20-19, in a slugfest in Dillon. Dillon jumped out to an early lead, knocking in eight runs in the first inning. But Stevensville chipped away at the lead until they took the lead in the top of the sixth inning by one run. Dillon rallied and scored two more runs in the seventh to seal the win. Sarah Morrison was the pitcher for Stevensville with Dani Trangmoe catching.
Haley Kampka hit two home runs. She was 5-for-5 at bat with five RBIs. Sam Hambrick went 2-for-5 with a home run, a triple, and three RBIs. Callie Lendman went 3-for-5 with a double and three RBIs. Freshman Mikayla Newman also had three RBIs.
