Stevensville – Carmie (Matthews) Lambeth entered into the loving arms of her Savior Jesus Christ Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at the age of 98.
She was born in November 5, 1917 in Pine Creek, Missouri to Rueben Matthews and Gladys Crismon Matthews, the oldest of four children. She graduated from Plato High School in 1935 as the Valedictorian of her class. She attended college in Springfield MO and received her teaching certificate and taught school grades 1-8 in a one-room school house, first in Missouri and later in California. Carmie accepted Jesus as her personal Lord and Savior in 1930 at the age of 12 at the Cedar Bluff Baptist Church.
In 1941 she married Russell Lambeth and to that union was born a daughter and a son. They all moved to California after WWII and were Charter members of Hill Top Chapel near Maramonte CA and attended there for many years. She later moved to Montana to be near her daughter and her grandchildren. She was a member of Florence Baptist Church and was faithful until her death. Carmie was always a “Go-Getter “and had many hobbies which she enjoyed and excelled at including but was not limited to sewing, needlework, crocheting, knitting, quilting, oil painting, drawing and wood carving. Also she loved to fish with her husband. All these hobbies left little time for work which included helping her husband replace the cedar shake roof on their home, building masonry rock walls, even a little cement work. Nothing was too much for her.
She was preceded in death by her parents Rube and Gladys Matthews, Her husband Russell, son Russ Jr., daughter Patsy Drury, granddaughter Julie Pearson, and great grandson Nathan Hixon, her sister Laverne Edwards and brother Dale Matthews. She is survived by her brother Jesse Matthews, two grandsons Rick Hixon and Matthew Turner, numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Carmie enjoyed a wonderful childhood, a wonderful marriage, she always said life was worthwhile and interesting with many blessings despite the losses. You will be missed but we will see you again soon.
