VFW Post 1507 is accepting donations to help Joe and Betty Antanavage of Victor who lost their house and nearly everything they owned in a fire on December 30.
The Antanavages were in bed when a fire broke out in their adjoining garage. They weren’t injured but getting away from the flames was a terrifying experience for the couple.
Joe is on dialysis and has difficulty walking. The couple had come home from a dialysis treatment and had gone to bed when Joe was awakened by smoke.
“We heard something popping,” said Betty. “I knew I couldn’t take the walker in the snow,” said Betty, “so I held Joe’s hand and waist and helped him out to the deck on the back side of the house,” where they waited for help to arrive.
Joe is a military veteran and a life member of the Stevensville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1507.
