The Corvallis Blue Devils picked up two wins at the Tip Off Tournament at the University of Montana over the weekend. The event featured Class A teams from west of the divide as well as four Class B schools. Hamilton split their games and Stevensville lost two close games.
Corvallis held off the Lady Pirates of Polson, 34-30, in their first game. The Blue Devils’ scrappy defense limited Polson t only four points in the first quarter. But Polson grew stronger as the game went on and came back to keep the game close. Penny Jessop had 14 points to lead Corvallis.

Corvallis defeated Whitefish on Saturday, 39-27. Although the Blue Devils trailed by one at the end of the first quarter but then held the Whitefish team scoreless in the second quarter. Sanderson had 12 points and Tully had 11 points.

Stevensville played Whitefish on Friday. The Lady ‘Jackets played tough but couldn’t close the find the bottom of the hoop. Whitefish won, 44-30. Mariah Hinson had 11 points for Stevensville.

Stevensville’s second game of the weekend was against Libby. Stevensville took a one-point lead into the fourth quarter but couldn’t hold off the Lady Loggers who came from behind to win, 48-41. Hinson had 14 points and Makayla Davids added 11.

Hamilton had the task of taking on the tough Columbia Falls WildKats in their first game. Columbia Falls has a lot of height and took advantage of that and played tough defense. They limited Hamilton to only 25 points while scoring 46 in the win. Kloie Nye and Tristy Searle each had six points for Hamilton.

Although Hamilton gave up quite a bit of size against Bigfork, their opponent in their second game, they made up for it in shot selection and defense. Hamilton won, 46-41. Nye, Baylie Duce and Reilly Rostad, and Jordan Bauder all had eight points apiece. Bauder was able to put pressure on the boards underneath and created more opportunities to score.
