The Corvallis boys and the Corvallis girls both won team titles at the Western A Divisional in Polson over the weekend but the top spot in both went to a Hamilton racer.
Hamilton’s Cameron Meikle had a time of 15:18.85 to take the boys title. That was about 24 seconds faster than Corvallis’ Ronald Venema’s time of 15:32.36. Hunter Casey of Stevensville was third with a time of 16:05.92.
Corvallis had six more runners in the top 25. Carson Jessop was fourth with a time of 16:12.43. He was followed by Josh Jessop in 6th with 16:21.98, Andrew Jessop in 9th with 16:33.17, Joel Haas in 11th with 16:35.20, Spencer Jessop in 12th with 16:39.70 and Jake Jessop in 17th with 17:05.30.
Hamilton placed three in the top 25. In addition to Meikle, Matt Wilson was 10th with a time of 16:33.98 and Steven Banks was 16th with a time of 17:00.91.
Hamilton’s Jaycie Schmalz won the girls race with a time of 18:15.47. Other top 25 placers for Hamilton were Keelie O’Brien in 14th with a time of 20:51.08 and Becca Parker in 23rd with a time of 21:25.35.
Corvallis had a one-point advantage over Whitefish to claim the girls’ title. The top finishing Blue Devil was Albany Jessop in fifth place with a time of 19:48.84. Lynn Reynoso was 8th with a time of 19:59.02, Grace Kurfman was 10th with 20:32.23; Julia Hickey was 16th with a time of 21:01.42 and Heidi Nisly was 17th with a time of 21:06.28.
Stevensville’s Heidi Lykins finished 19th with a time of 21:10.69 and Erica Lykins was 21st with a time of 21:16.08.
The state cross-country championships will be held this weekend, October 24, at the Eagle Falls Golf Course in Great Falls.
