Sports physical program
All male and female valley athletes in middle and high school are invited to the Marcus Daly Rehabilitation Center on Wednesday, August 12 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. for the annual sports physical program. Over the past nine years, this program sponsored by Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital and Medical Providers raised over $70,000 for the valley’s school athletic programs. The cost is $25 per student and 100% of the proceeds will be donated back to the students’ school athletic program. Cash or check only, payment is due at the time of visit, no refunds. Please enter the Marcus Daly Rehabilitation Center through the main entrance, located on the south west end of Westwood Drive.
All participants must have a sports physical form. They are available at doctor’s offices or coaches; or online at www.mdmh.org. Parents must fill out & sign the sports physical form and accompany their child at the examination. The physical includes height, weight, blood pressure, pulse, vision, evaluations for posture, joints, strength, flexibility, heart, lungs, abdomen, ears, nose, and throat.

Newcomers Club
No matter whether you’ve lived in the valley all your life, or if you’ve only just arrived here, the
best place to meet and make new friends is The Bitterroot Women Newcomers Club. It meets on the second Thursday of each month at 10 a.m. at the First Christian Church, 128 Fairgrounds Road in Hamilton. This month members will meet at Safe Haven Llama & Alpaca Sanctuary, 780 Old Corvallis Road. After a short business meeting the group will tour the sanctuary. Economy presentation
The 10th Annual Economic Update presented by The University of Montana Bureau of Business & Economic Research and Montana Department of Labor & Industry will take place Thursday, August 13 at 12 noon at the Hilton Garden Inn in Missoula. The theme this year is “Women at Work.” Barbara Wagner, Chief Economist for the State of Montana Department of Labor and Industry, will join Patrick Barkey and Paul Polzin from the University of Montana Bureau of Business & Economic Research as presenters. The latest local, state and national economic projections will be presented in these one-and-a-half hour seminars. Additionally, the role of women in the workplace and their impact on the economy will be presented. Cost is $25 for Montana Chamber members, $30 for non-members. Lunch will be included. York Rite Masons
The York Rite Masons of Hamilton will have an open installation of their 2015-2016 officers on Friday, August 14 at 7 p.m. in the Masonic Lodge Hall, 115 S. Third Street, Hamilton. The public is invited. The three State Grand Officers will be present to do the installation. There will be a supper at 6 p.m. prior to the installation. All are invited but if you do not normally attend the suppers, call Fred at 363-0768 by Wednesday, the 12th, and make a reservation.
Lone Rock park board
The Lone Rock division of the Ravalli County Park Board will meet on Friday, August 14 at 8 p.m. at the Three Mile Fire Hall. The public is welcome.

Public dance
Bitterroot Dancers is hosting a public dance on Saturday, August 15 at 7 p.m. at the Bedford Building (city hall, upstairs) in Hamilton. The Revelators will be playing country western music. No host bar, $8 entry. 381-1392 for info.

Center for Spiritual Living
The Center for Spiritual Living hosts Laura Garber presenting “Cultivating the Qualities of Community” on Sunday, August 16 at 10 a.m. Laura operates Homestead Organics farm and actively promotes a community approach to expand local food systems. Golden Age picnic
The Golden Age Club will host a summer picnic on Sunday, August 16. The picnic dinner will be at 1 p.m. The club will provide fried chicken, rolls and coffee. Other entrees and desserts will be potluck. After dinner there will be music for listening and dancing. Reservations are needed so the club can provide enough chicken. Call Bob at 363-0142 to make a reservation. Admission is $6.00 per person for the dinner and dance. The club is located at 727 S. 5th Street in Hamilton. Proceeds from the picnic will be used for the roof repair and to continue other activities like the exercise and pinochle programs. Also on the upkeep schedule is work on the floor.

Victoria Clark, Administrator, Bitterroot College, University of Montana will be speaking at the next meeting of the Hamilton Rotary Club, on Monday August 17 at 12 noon at BJ’s Restaurant, 900 N. 1st Street, Hamilton. Stevensville Playhouse auditions
The Stevensville Playhouse announces auditions for the October performances of the Disney and Cameron Mackintosh (Broadway stage) version of “Mary Poppins.” The auditions will take place on August 17 and 19 at 7 p.m. There are several characters to be cast, so we need many people of all ages to fill the bill. Every person needs to be able to sing, and some also need to dance. A cast list should be ready and posted by the 21st, and rehearsals will start on Monday, August 24.
Shakespeare in the Park
Montana Shakespeare in the Parks will perform Shakespeare’s “The Taming of the Shrew” on Monday, August 17 at 6 p.m. at Sapphire Lutheran Homes in Hamilton. The company features 10 professional actors selected from national auditions who tour without technical assistance to bring live theatre to mostly rural communities. Kevin Asselin will direct “The Taming of the Shrew” with a regional Wild West take on the play. The performance is free and open to the public. Audiences are encouraged to arrive early with chairs, blankets and picnics.

Tuesday at Twelve concert series
The final free concert in the Tuesday at Twelve series will take place August 18 on the lawn of the Ravalli County Museum, at Third and Bedford Streets in Hamilton. Mountain Strings Quartet will be the featured performer. Bring a lawn chair or blanket, and meet your friends and family for a great mid-day, mid-week break! RCEDA
Ravalli County Economic Development Authority will hold its regular monthly Finance Committee meeting on Tuesday, August 18 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., and the regular monthly meeting of the Board of Commissioners on Wednesday, August 19 from 3 to 5 p.m. Both meetings will be held at the RCEDA office, 274 Old Corvallis Road, Hamilton. These meetings are open to the public.
Library animal program
North Valley Public Library invites you to come and see Animal Wonders and their live exotic animals on Tuesday, August 18 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the library community room. There will be at least eight animals, two wildlife specialists, and a chance to visit with each animal individually. Come and visit animals from around the world! Space is limited for this event. Lutheran preschool open house
Our Savior Lutheran Preschool of Stevensville will host the 2015/2016 school year’s open house on Wednesday, August 19 from 5 to 7 p.m. Parents of children currently enrolled and those who wish to inquire about fall registration are welcome. Families are encouraged to bring their young students. In the relaxed atmosphere parents and children can inspect the facility, meet the teachers, get acquainted with classmates as adults discuss the learning program. Participants may come any time between 5 and 7 to this informal gathering.
Preschool opens on Tuesday, September 8th for three-year-olds and Wednesday, September 9th for fours. Openings are still available in the three-year-old class. Parents wishing to reserve remaining spots or to be placed on a waiting list for the four-year-old class should call 369-2536 for more information.
Our Savior Lutheran Church, affiliated with the Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod, is located at 184 Pine Hollow Road. About a mile south of the intersection of Middle Burnt Fork Road and the Eastside Highway, turn east onto Pine Hollow. Cross the tracks and the canal and the church will be on the left, marked by three crosses.
