First Friday in Hamilton
Downtown Hamilton will celebrate the first Friday in June with an “outdoor recreation” theme this Friday, June 5, from 5 to 8 p.m., with activities and demonstrations presented by more than a dozen groups. The event is hosted by the Hamilton Downtown Association, as part of their monthly First Friday activities.
Hamilton’s Main Street will be closed between Second and Third Streets, to make room for groups ranging from Trout Unlimited to Ravalli County Public Health, according to HDA Coordinator Russ Lawrence.
“It’s a chance to bring what we love about the Bitterroot to downtown Hamilton,” said Lawrence. “We want that block of Main Street to be a microcosm of everything that goes on outdoors, whether it’s on trails, streams, roads, or rivers.”
Exhibitors will set up at 5 p.m., with flycasting demos and lessons, water safety information, archery, and Smokey Bear himself helping the Forest Service promote their “bear aware” safety materials. Other exhibitors will have information and activities related to the Lake Como and Bitterroot Classic triathlons, urban forestry, youth activities, cycling, skiing, rockhounding, and more.
At 6 p.m., the “Out on the Townie First Friday Bike Brigade” will gather at Third and Main for a leisurely ride along many of Hamilton’s marked cycle routes, led by Jenny West. Riders of all ages and abilities are welcome to participate, and bicycle decorations and costumes are encouraged. Helmets are required.
Downtown businesses will be open extended hours in celebration of June’s First Friday, and many will be hosting in-store events or offering specials, including live music and refreshments.
All events are free and open to the public. For more information, contact the HDA at (406) 360-9124, or email hamiltondowntownassociation@gmail.com.
