The Victor boys track team surged past the rest of the field on Saturday to claim the District 13C championship. When the day began on Saturday, Victor trailed Darby and Philipsburg, who each had 63 points, by one point. Strong showings in the long jump, triple jump, 300 hurdles and discus gave the Pirates the title. Ryan Lewis heaved the discus 147’3” almost 22 feet farther than second place for that win. His throw is the second longest in the state right now. Colt Neville won the 300 hurdles with a time of 43.44, just edging out Kye McCollaum.
But it was Victor’s depth that gave them the edge. Blake Bowen took third in the 110 hurdles, fourth in the 300 hurdles and fourth in the high jump. Austin Lewis was third in the pole vault, fifth in the 800 and fifth in the 1,600. Jesse Pearson was fifth in the 100 and fourth in the long jump. Kolton Benish took third in the triple and third in the high jump. Greg Charlton was fourth in the triple, fourth in the pole vault and third in the javelin. The relay teams finished third in the 400 and second in the 1,600.
The Darby boys finished fourth behind Victor, Drummond and Philipsburg. Joe Caicedo was a double winner. He threw the shot put 44’8” to take that event. IN the javelin, Caicedo launched a throw of 191’1” and set a new meet record by over 20 feet. Evan Duggan won the 3,200 with a time of 10:27.81, eight seconds faster than second place. The Darby boys won the 400 relay and were fourth in the 3,200.
Darby’s girls finished second behind Seeley-Swan. Keely Ehmann was a double winner. The Carol College bound senior won the 100 with a meet record of 12.84, and the 400. She was edged out in the 200 by a nose. Darby’s 100-meter relay team won that event. Tori Johnston won the long jump with a leap of 15’10”. Johnston was third in the 100.
Victor’s Carlyjean Conley won the shot put with a throw of 32’4”. She won the discus, after scratching twice, with a throw of 101’10”, 15 feet farther than second place. Michaela Portner won the 100 hurdles with a time of 18.64. She was second in the triple jump and the long jump and third in the pole vault.
The top five individuals and the top five relay teams will compete this weekend at the Western C Divisional. That meet will be at Dornblaser Field in Missoula.
