Library Homework Hour
The North Valley Public Library is starting a new program. “Homework Hour” is designed to be a free, open, quiet study hall. Children of all ages can come to study, research, do homework, receive free tutoring (as available) or just relax and read. Keep in mind that children 10 years old and under must be accompanied by parents or older siblings while at the library. “Homework Hour” will take place in the library’s newly remodeled Community Room. It will be supervised by two adult staff members. The first “Homework Hour” will be on Wednesday, May 27 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Children can come at any time and leave whenever they want. Quilters’ Guild
The Bitterroot Quilters’ Guild will meet Wednesday, May 27 at 6:30 p.m. at Daly-Leach Community Room, 1010 W. Main, Hamilton. All community members are welcome to attend.

Elk lecture
A lecture by Daniel Eacker on “Elk Calf Survival and Elk Population Dynamics in the Southern Bitterroot Valley” will be held Thursday, May 28 at 6 p.m. at the Ravalli County Museum, 205 Bedford St, Hamilton. Eacker is a graduate student in the Wildlife Biology Program at the University of Montana. Dan started his M.S. program in January of 2012 working on the Bitterroot Elk Ecology Project. This three-year study was initiated by Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks in response to declining elk calf recruitment in the southern Bitterroot Valley of Montana. The study will determine the importance of factors such as nutrition and predation for elk calf survival and elk population dynamics. Eacker will explain the background for the study, provide updated results, and talk about the study goals in relation to the broader context of carnivore recovery.
Stevi Town Council
The Stevensville Town Council will meet Thursday, May 28 at 7 p.m. at the town hall, 208 Buck Street. Agenda items include discussion/decision on Stevensville Garden Club application for Grants to Others for flowers; donation to Skate Park for volunteer work at the Stevensville pool; Buck Street right-of-way lease to Stevensville Hardware; and Employee Health Care Benefit Package for FY15-16, to name a few.
Victor Park District
The next meeting of the Victor Park District will be on Thursday May 28 at 7 p.m. at the Farmers State Bank meeting room in Victor (enter rear door). Discussion will be on summer maintenance and special projects. If you appreciate the Victor Parks and plantings, please volunteer to help care for them. SAFE fundraiser
Boot, Scoot & Boogie, Spring Fundraiser to benefit SAFE will be held Friday, May 29 from 6 to 11 p.m. at the First Interstate Building at the Ravalli County Fairgrounds. Dinner, dancing and a live auction will be just a small part of the festivities. Patron admission is $50/$80 couple. General admission is $30/$50 couple. Dancing only is $15. Dinner catered by B+B Catering with a no host bar by Brewski’s. St. Mary’s Mission Community Appreciation Day
Community Appreciation Day will take place Saturday, May 30 at Historic St Mary’s Mission and Museum, west end of 4th Street, Stevensville. Have you seen the unique handcrafted artifacts made by Father Ravalli? Or viewed the Salish history housed inside Chief Victor’s cabin? To express gratitude for the support the historic mission receives from the community, mission volunteers are offering free tours on Saturday, May 30 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Museum benefit
“A Night out at Sapphire” will be held Friday, May 30 at 7 p.m. at Sapphire Lutheran Homes in Hamilton. Mouthwatering entrees, side dishes, desserts and fine wines, prepared by the talented culinary staff at Sapphire Lutheran Homes, will be served in an elegant atmosphere, fully attended by friendly wait staff and paired with a new museum exhibit. Mule Team Meeting
A Mule Team meeting will be held Tuesday, June 2 at 6:30 p.m. at the Victor Farmers State Bank conference room. Come in the back entrance. Members will go over summer activities and share information. At 7 p.m. the public is invited to join in a discussion of the book “Deer Hunting With Jesus” by Joe Bageant. This book is a report about understanding how and why some working class citizens have given up on the advances liberalism has brought the country. Fly Fishers of the Bitterroot
The monthly meeting of FFB will be Tuesday, June 2 at BJ’s Restaurant in Hamilton. Social hour is 6 to 7 p.m. Cocktails and dinner are optional. The presentation will feature Al Pernichele, Bitterroot River Water Commissioner, and Chris Clancy, FWP biologist. They will discuss current and likely summer water conditions, water usage, and the impact on our native Cutthroat trout. Al will explain water allocations and release schedules from Painted Rocks and Lake Como. Chris has new data regarding water temperatures and the effect on different trout species based on stream surveys. This information promises to be informative and educational. Don’t miss it! Studio art tour
Artists Along the Bitterroot is holding its 5th annual Studio Tour June 5-7 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. There are about 25 artists with works ranging from bronze sculptures, paintings in acrylic, oil and watercolor, pottery, leather, photography, mixed mediums, glass, pencil, custom jewelry, textile arts and metals. Come and see where the artists create their amazing work. Used Art & Jewelry Sale
The Stevensville Historical Museum will hold the Used Art and Jewelry Sale at the North Valley Library Community Room on June 5 and 6. The sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. The public is invited to come in to shop on Friday night and sample some hors d’oeuvres. This sale is one of the major events used by the Museum to raise the funds needed to support the Museum’s goals of collecting, preserving and displaying the unique history of Stevensville and the surrounding Bitterroot Valley. First Friday at NV Library
