The Frenchtown Invitational softball tournament gives teams a good indication of what they need to do in the final weeks of the season to secure a spot at the state tournament, and to see what the competition is shaping up to be. The two-day event is primarily for Class A schools but several B/C teams also participate.
On Friday, Stevensville split their games. They lost to Frenchtown, 9-2, in the first game. Carly Vercruyssen was pitching for Stevensville. The seasoned senior went 1-for-4 with an RBI. Jenna Lockman was 2-for-4. Maddie Boesch wend 1-for-3 and also hand an RBI.
The Yellowjackets came from behind in the seventh inning to win, 12-11. Stevensville’s bats got hot in the final inning and loaded the bases. Lockman hit a single to send a runner home. Vercruyssen hit another two in and then Cambrea Beller hit a sac fly to score Lockman. Vercruyssen went 3-for-5 and had four RBIs. Lockman hit a triple and was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Beller, Megan Finley and Callie Lendman all had two RBIs.
The Yellowjackets picked up two more wins on Saturday, topping Whitefish, 18-6, and Thompson Falls, 18-0. Boesch picked up the win against Whitefish. Lendman had three RBIs and Taylor Rauch, who was 1-for-1, had two RBIs. Finley had a home run in the game against Thompson Falls that was shortened to five innings due to the 10 run rule. She had three RBIs. Lockman and Beller also had three RBIs while Lendman, Boesch, Hambrick and Kayla Amt each knocked in a runner.
Hamilton topped Whitefish, 17-0, on Friday in a shortened game. Hayley Hudgens pitched the no-hitter for Hamilton. Taylor Goligoski was 1-for-1 at bat with a double and three RBIs. Caitlin Dillon went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs also. Lacey Dolcater also had a double and was 1-for-2 at bat with an RBI. Rachael Ringer went 2-for-3 and had two RBIs. Kelsie Meis had three RBIs and Mallory McGill had tow. Kloie Nye, Huxtable and Jacey Hinson each had an RBI.
Also on Friday, Hamilton topped Libby, 12-10.Freshman Sky Lopez was the winning pitcher. Goligoski had a home run and a double. She was 3-for-3 at bat and had five RBIs. Lauren Dolcater went 2-for-3 and had a triple and two RBIs. McKayl Rothie and Dillon each had RBIs.
The Lady Broncs didn’t fare as well on Saturday. They lost to Columbia Falls, 4-1, and to Ronan, 14-6. Lopez was the pitcher against Columbia Falls. Dillon had a triple and an RBI against the WildKats. Hudgins and Lopez split the pitching against Ronan. Tayler Reynolds and Ringle each had home runs in the game. Reynolds had two RBIs and Ringer and Nye each had an RBI.
Corvallis topped Whitefish, 14-0, and then lost to Columbia Falls, 14-2, on Friday. The Blue Devils topped Thompson Falls, 8-2. Taylor Gagnon pitched the win. Bobbie Stephen went 3-for-4 and had an RBI. Taia Tully had an RBI and was 2-for-4. Sydonia Curtis and Nicole Turner also had RBIs.
Florence topped Corvallis, 13-3. Megan Byrne pitched the win for Florence. Gagnon was the pitcher for Corvallis. Byrne was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Natalie Drozdz went 1-for-2 and also had two RBIs. Haley Hale went 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs. Jewel Zeiler and Micayla Cole each had an RBI for Florence. Corvallis had RBIs from Turner, Stephen and Hannah Capko.
