The Corvallis boys and girls won the Florence/Darby meet on Thursday even though most of the Corvallis varsity teams had limited participation. Corvallis relied on their large junior varsity teams and anchored them with a few varsity athletes. Stevensville took second in the boys team scoring.
In the girls’ scoring, Corvallis’ veteran 400-relay team won with a time of 51.37. That team is made up of Hannah Gale, Penny Jessop, Halee Jessop and Katelyn Frost. Another Blue Devil, Zena Smith, won both the shot put and the javelin. Her throw of 33’9” was two feet longer than Carlyjean Conley of Victor who placed second. Smith’s winning throw in the javelin was 117’4”.
Darby’s Keely Ehmann was a double winner. She took the 200, edging out Katelyn Frost of Corvallis. Ehmann ran away from the field in the 400. Her time of 1:00.06 was over two seconds faster than Penny Jessop of Corvallis. Darby’s Lily Lang won the 3,200 with a time of 12:16.68.
Florence’s Alexis Taulbee had another winning run in the 300 hurdles. She stopped the clock with a time of 50.09. Teammate Ally Rust came in second and Stevensville’s Megan Pendergast was third in that event.
The Corvallis boys won the team scoring behind the wins of Jayce Gilder in the shot put and Ronald Venema’s win in the 3,200. Gilder’s threw the shot 46’2 ½” inches to win that event. Venema clocked 10:17.69 in the 3,200. Teammates Andrew Jessop and Josh Jessop finished second and third in that event.

Darby’s Joe Caicedo won the javelin with a throw of 176’8”. This is the best throw in Class C to date. His teammate, John Beckers, was second with a throw of 156 feet.
