When Corvallis and Hamilton meet, no matter what sport, it’s always a good match up. Such was the case on Thursday when Corvallis traveled to Hamilton for soccer.
“Corvallis is always our stiffest competition in the conference,” according to Hamilton coach Kiah Nisly. “We know all these players by name and not number so it’s always going to end up being a good game.”
Hamilton scored early when Kendal Gordon took a Kara Weese assist in for a goal at four minutes. The two changed roles with Gordon feeding Weese at 55 minutes for the final goal of the game. Bri Huggans scored an unassisted goal at 17 minutes. Hamilton won, 3-0.
Nisly said her team was not happy with how they played against Loyola. “We were hungry in this game. This is the kind of soccer we’ve been looking to play all year. We had great control and a lot of passing which is fantastic.”
She went on to say they have been working on possession and keeping control of the ball and the game. She credited her defense with holding Corvallis scoreless and keeper Larami Schara with her four saves. Corvallis took seven shots on goal while Hamilton had 22 shots. Kira Doyle had seven saves for Corvallis.
Corvallis coach Allison Neils-Lemoine said the game was fun. “Our girls played hard. The end of the first half, our players really stepped it up and were in control.”
She went on to say Corvallis is playing a lot of freshmen and sophomores. “We have a lot of girls who haven’t played soccer before and they’ve improved substantially.”
