Victor, MT – Cecelia (Cy) Ann Hardy Haslip of Victor, Montana ended her struggle to be a cancer survivor on 31 August, one day after her 56th wedding anniversary. Cy was born on 13 May 1938 in Sidney, Montana, daughter of William James Hardy and Erma Mae (Prigan) Hardy.
Cy was raised in Sidney, Montana and graduated from Sidney High School in 1956 where she was named Best Looking. She then completed two years of study to become an art teacher at Montana State College, later named MSU. Cy sang A Capella both at MSC and Sidney High and was a capable piano player. During her sophomore year at MSC, her friendly personality and captivating smile caught the eye of her soon to be husband, Jerry, whom she married on 30 August 1958. After marriage, Cy continued her art interests by taking many rides to find scenery suitable for painting. She loved flower gardening, landscaping statuary, bird watching/feeding, and animals, especially dogs and raccoons. Many friends will recall her genuine interest in their lives. She had a real talent for asking the many, but right questions to get to know people and their interests better! As a result, she favorably touched many people who became close friends!
Cy looked forward to sister and daughter-in-law visits because she knew that she would have shopping partners. She also enjoyed going to craft stores looking for anything that would peak her interest or enhance household decorations. Cy loved, and was a whiz at, crosswords.
After marriage, the family lived in Seattle, then Brigham City, Utah and later in several different states until settling in the Salt Lake City area. The family loved the “great outdoors” and spent many enjoyable weekends and vacations trailer camping.
After deciding to retire, we planned to visit northwestern Montana, Idaho and Oregon before deciding where to re-locate and build our new home. However, upon getting to Hamilton, we really liked the scenic valley. After sightseeing, we found our current property; which Cy absolutely fell in love with! Our dream home was built in 1992 and we lived happily until saddened by Cy’s bout with cancer and chemotherapy treatments.
Cy is greatly missed by her loving husband, friend, and partner Gerald (Jerry) J. Haslip; as well as two sons, Craig and Gary; daughter, Kris; sisters, Valerie and Pattie, and her many, many friends. Son Craig H. Haslip and wife Christa (Cloud) live in South Jordan, Utah. They plan to make Montana their home in the near future and have three children, Jeff, Bryan, and Jessica. Son Gary M. Haslip and wife Rosa (Rodriguez) live in Fernandina Beach, Florida and have two daughters, Melanie and Megan. Daughter Kristine A. Wade and husband Scot live in Hamilton, Montana. Kris’ daughter Aspen is in college. Sister Valerie and husband Bob Burnison live in Sidney, Montana. Sister Pattie and husband Mike Larson live in Hermiston, Oregon. Cy is happy that nearly all grandchildren graduated college. Her parents and sister Katherine E. Miller preceded her in death.
As Cy would have wanted, informal dress services will be held at the Daly-Leach Chapel in Hamilton, Montana at 12 noon on 13 September 2014 with Pastor Dan Dixon officiating. A luncheon reception will follow at Daly-Leach. Cremation was Cy’s preference and has occurred. Condolences may be left for the family at www.dalyleachchapel.com.
