Darby food collection
The Darby Bread Box is collecting the following for the months of July, August and September: cereal, canned vegetables and tomato sauce. Drop off donated items at People’s Market and the Bitterroot Credit Union in Darby. Any donation is appreciated.
Community Band concerts
The Bitterroot Community Band performs a free concert at Claudia Driscoll Park in Hamilton every Thursday at 8 p.m. during the summer. Come enjoy classic band literature, marches, pop classics, show tunes and the occasional movie theme. Victor Fire Dept. helpers
A group is forming to provide snacks and food to the firefighters of the Victor Volunteer Fire Department. These volunteers work hard for the entire community putting out fires, rescuing lost hikers and giving aid to the injured, and community members would like to give something back by providing prepared food on a regular basis. If you’re interested in making and donating baked goods, sandwiches, casseroles or crockpot meals, etc., contact Sharon at 642-3844.
Audubon calendar on sale
The 2015 Bitterroot Audubon Calendar is now on sale. The calendar is filled with 55 gorgeous photos of Bitterroot birds taken by Bitterroot photographers! Corvallis 4th graders’ art work is also in the calendar. Proceeds from the sale of this unique calendar go to help send Montana college students to Montana colleges, send Bitterroot kids to summer camps and help Bitterroot Audubon with its conservation and education projects here in the valley. Find the calendars at local stores, every Saturday at the Hamilton Farmers Market and online at bitterrootaudubon.org.
BRHA pet photo contest
Find the cutest, funniest, most outrageous pictures of your adorable pets and submit them to the Bitter Root Humane Association annual Pet Photo Contest. Each photo should be no larger than 5 x 7, have your name, address and phone number on the back and be submitted with a $5.00 entry fee for each photo. If you want your photos returned, include a self addressed stamped envelope. The BRHA staff will pick the ten finalists. The winner will be chosen by public vote at the BRHA booth at the Ravalli County Fair and receive a t-shirt with their winning photo on it. Voting is conducted by financial contribution for your favorite photo(s). All funds raised support the Precious Companions Program which assists with the adoption and care of older animals who come to the shelter. All entries must be received by Aug. 22, 2014. Mail entries to BRHA, PO Box 57, Hamilton MT 59840 or bring them to the shelter during business hours.

Grief coping workshop
A free workshop on coping with grief facilitated by: Mary-Ann Bowman, Ph.D., L.C.S.W., and Kendra Tucker, MSW candidate, will be held Thursday, July 31 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Guardian Healthcare Center, Stevensville (next to Super One off Highway 93). Are you or someone you know affected by grief? This class is designed to help individuals learn about the symptoms of grief, the grieving process, and coping skills. North Valley Pachyderm Club
The North Valley Pachyderm Club will meet Friday, August 1 at 12 noon at The Frontier Café, Hwy 93 in Stevensville. Guest speaker will be Sheriff Chris Hoffman. The North Valley Pachyderm Club meets the first and third Friday of each month from 12 noon to 1 p.m. The North Valley Pachyderm Club is an educational arm of the Republican Party. All are welcome.
Hamilton First Friday
The Hamilton Downtown Association will celebrate First Friday on Friday, August 1 from 5 to 8 p.m. in selected stores in downtown Hamilton. They invite one and all to start the back-to-school season at various stores downtown, and the culmination of the “Where’s Waldo” activity for kids at Chapter One Book Store. Enjoy in-store specials downtown, then enjoy dinner or a beverage at one of Hamilton’s restaurants.

Pancake breakfast
In conjunction with the annual Creamery Picnic, the Stevensville Masonic Lodge will hold its annual Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, August 2 from 7 to 11 a.m. at the lodge, 3rd and Church, Stevensville (one block east of Main at the stop sign).
All brothers, sisters, sojourners and the public are invited for eggs, bacon, pancakes and beverages. Cost is $7 for adults, $3 for children. Proceeds support the Florence and Stevensville Schools’ Junior Achievement Programs and the “Bikes for Books” program at Lone Rock and Stevensville Schools.
Senior Center lunch
The Stevensville Senior Center, 100 Mission, will hold its annual Hamburger and Pie Sale on Saturday, August 2 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. during the Creamery Picnic celebration. The public is welcome.
‘Roundup at Riverside’
The Daly Mansion will be hosting its premier fundraising event, Roundup at Riverside on Saturday, August 2 on the grounds of the Daly Mansion. The evening will begin at 5:30 p.m. and will include live music by award winning bluegrass duo Mike and Tari Conroy, a wide variety of silent and live auction items including unique Montana experiences, a trip to Tuscany, and outstanding works of art. Dinner will be catered by Caffé Firenze offering slow roasted baby back ribs and chicken breast au poivre. For dessert, the Roundup Committee will be auctioning delicious pies. Drink service will be provided by Rainbow Bar. Reservations are $65 per person (includes one free drink ticket and dinner) and are available by calling 363-6004, ext. 2#. All funds raised that evening will go to support the operations of the Daly Mansion Estate, a Montana historic treasure. Victor history presentation
Victor Heritage Museum is hosting Bruce Gould with his presentation of “Merchants, Miners and Thieves” Saturday, August 2 at 1 p.m. Come and learn how Victor and surrounding areas here in the Bitterroot Valley were named. Bruce will share information using photos and stories you will enjoy repeating to others. The museum is located on the corner of Main Street and Blake in Victor. Museum benefit
Join the Ravalli County Museum in its fundraising efforts at the Bitter Root Brewery in Hamilton on Sunday, August 3 from 4 to 8 p.m. for “Hops & History.” This event will quench your summertime thirst and put some jazz in your step with special guests Joan Zen. Sports physicals
All male and female valley athletes in middle and high school are invited to the Marcus Daly Rehabilitation Center on Thursday, August 7or Wednesday, August 13from 6 to 8:30 p.m. for the annual sports physical program. Over the past eight years, this program sponsored by Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital and Medical Providers has raised over $63,000 for the valley’s school athletic programs. The cost is $25 per student and 100% of the proceeds will be donated back to the students’ school athletic program. Cash or check only, payment is due at the time of visit, no refunds. Enter the Marcus Daly Rehabilitation Center through the main entrance, located on the southwest end of Westwood Drive.
All participants must have a sports physical form. They are available from doctor’s offices or coaches, or online at www.mdmh.org. Parents must fill out and sign the sports physical form and accompany their child to the examination. The physical includes height, weight, blood pressure, pulse, vision, evaluations for posture, joints, strength, flexibility, heart, lungs, abdomen, ears, nose, and throat.
