Stevensville – Lucy Paez Gonzalez, 90, of Stevensville passed away June 20, 2014 at the Village Health Care Center surrounded by family.
She was born June 4, 1924 in Pueblo, Colorado. She spent time as a child at the Marcus Daly Mansion where her family worked. Mrs. Daly was very fond of Lucy and her brother Emilio and she spoke highly of them and they also traveled with Mrs. Daly in her limo. There is still a portrait of Emilio at the Mansion.
Lucy was raised in the Lone Rock area and attended the Lone Rock and Aetna schools. At age 16 she married Carmen Gonzalez in Butte. They purchased a farm in the Three Mile area and raised seven children: Eugene (Aida), Ramona (Dean), Frank (June), Jim, Christina (Brian), Pat (Robin) and David. Lucy and Carmen were married for 30 years.
Lucy was in the altar society and the PTA Boosters Club. She always attended the children’s sports. She was a grader for the local potato farmers which included the Higgins, Moody and Hagen families. She enjoyed cooking for her large family, loved to bake pies and roll out stacks of tortillas. She also enjoyed sewing, knitting, embroidery, driving trucks and tractors and anything to do with farming and the family. Lucy was a hard working lady and also worked at the 4B’s Cafe, Osco Drug, Clements Drug Store and of course, her work at the family farm.
Lucy was preceded in death by her husband, Carmen, her youngest son, David, her brother, Emilio, her sisters, Alice and Rachel and a grandson, Joey Gonzalez. Survivors include her children, 13 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the Village Health Care Center and St. Patrick Hospital for all of their care to their mother.
