Film showing
The film “True Wolf: Koani and Her Unusual Pack “ will be shown at the Bitterroot Public Library on Thursday, June 26 at 7 p.m. in the meeting room of the library. The film explores how society views the wolf and how we see ourselves in relationship to the natural world. Pat Tucker and Bruce Weide will provide a follow up discussion related to their experience with raising Koani. This will take place in the meeting room of the library. Explore contemporary science in a casual and informative manner.
Victor Park District
The next meeting of the Victor Park District will be Thursday, June 26 at 7 p.m. at the Farmers State Bank meeting room in Victor. The board will be discussing on-going maintenance, re-doing the entrance beds, and possible grants for restrooms in the park. Community Band concert
The Bitterroot Community Band will perform on Thursday, June 26 at 8 p.m. at Claudia Driscoll Park in Hamilton. The BCB begins its summer Bandshell Series featuring live music every Thursday in the park. The band kicks off the summer featuring concert band repertoire contemporary and old, movie themes, and marches by King and Sousa. Corvallis Throwing Camps
The 10th annual Corvallis throws camp will be held Friday and Saturday, June 27 and 28 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Corvallis High School. The camp open to any javelin, shot put, and discus throwers 7th grade and up. Over 70 Montana state placing throwers have attended this camp, including 20 state championships in the shot put and discus. The camp includes sessions of throwing presentations, discus throwing, shot put throwing, javelin throwing, strength training, and video analysis. Cost is $40 per athlete and includes a t-shirt. South Valley Pachyderm Club
A video “expose” on the federal government’s Common Core public education program will be shown at the Friday, June 27 meeting of the South Valley Pachyderm Club. The club normally meets at 12 noon on the second and fourth Fridays at BJ’s Restaurant, 900 N. First Street, in Hamilton. To permit enough time to air the 70-minute video, the meeting will commence at 11:45 a.m. and adjourn at 1 p.m. The South Valley Pachyderm Club is an officially recognized allied organization of the Republican Party. Darby Last Friday
Last Friday in Darby is a summer evening of music, art, food, dancing, children’s events and socializing. Join in all summer on the last Friday of the month. Save the dates: June 27, July 25 and August 29 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Darby Town Park on Main Street. Live music will be by Pinegrass in June, Poor Henry in July and The Workers in August. Last Fridays will highlight some local beverage vendors with wine, hard cider and mead. Art and food vendors are welcome for $15 per spot. Band sponsors are also needed. Mule Team After Hours
The Ravalli County Democratic Women are hosting a Mule Team After Hours gathering on Friday, June 27 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Summerdale Park on the 600 block of Quast Lane, 1/2 mile north of Corvallis off of the Eastside Highway. Conover benefit
A benefit dinner for Tyler Conover will be held Friday, June 27 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Stevensville Fire Hall. Hot dogs, potato salad, chips and drink will be served for $5 per plate or $15 per family, with additional hot dogs at $1 each. There will also be a raffle of items donated by local businesses. On June 7, four-year-old Tyler was severely injured in a lawn mower accident. He has had multiple surgeries. Doctors were unable to save his foot, which had to be amputated at mid-calf. Mountain-to-Meadow Half Marathon
The 7th Annual Mountain-to-Meadow Half Marathon and 5K Fun Run will be held Saturday, June 28 at Lolo Pass Visitor Center. This scenic run, organized by Discover Your Northwest, will begin at the Visitor Center on Highway 12 at the Idaho-Montana border. The half marathon winds for 13.1 miles through forests of Englemann spruce and sub-alpine fir with dramatic views of the Bitterroot Mountains in the distance. Both the 5K run (out and back) and the 13.1 mile loop will pass Packer Meadows, a historically significant site along the Nez Perce and Lewis and Clark trails. Commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Wilderness Act, special guests at this event will include the Forest Service Northern Region Pack String, Selway Bitterroot Wilderness Foundation, and the Leave No Trace Traveling Subaru team. Post-race event highlights include Ellie Nuno and friends playing their special brand of mountain music by the visitor center. Special surprises on the course will also celebrate the anniversary of 50 years of wilderness. Register for the race online at www.runlolopass.org. Cost of $27.00 includes race medals. No registration cost for kids 12 and under, but they must be accompanied by an adult.
Bitter Root Day
The 34th Annual Bitter Root Day will be held Saturday, June 28 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Ravalli County Museum, 205 Bedford, Hamilton. During Bitter Root Day, the Museum grounds are the setting for a beautifully crafted, outdoor walking exhibit centered on the history and culture of the Salish. The day’s festivities include arts, crafts, food and produce from local and out of area vendors, potted Bitter Root plants and seeds for sale, live music, children’s activities and our two Bitter Root Day Signature Competitions. The 3rd Annual Jerky Contest and the 2nd Annual “Create a Difference” Recycled Craft Competition will also be held. Benefit rummage sale
On Saturday, June 28, Ravalli Women’s Wellness Center is holding a rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parking lot of the Center at 303 N. 3rd Street in Hamilton. Walk over from the farmers market to see the clinic and find hidden treasures at the sale. If you have any items that you would like to donate for the sale, you can drop them at the clinic on Friday. Corps of Discovery Campout
Want to take your family camping, but not sure how to begin? The Corps of Discovery Campout at Travelers’ Rest State Park is designed to provide information to those new to camping or novice campers looking to make their next outing more enjoyable. While the kids are enjoying games and guided activities in the park, parents can learn the camping basics from local experts. You’ll leave with all the knowledge necessary to plan and have fun on your own camping adventure.
Stations for adults include cooking and food, first aid, camp activities, how to decide where to camp and what gear you need. Children’s activities will include traditional games, geo-caching and the Traveler’s Rest Brigade, a group of historic re-enactors.
Food will be provided and event staff will consult with families as they cook dinner. The evening will feature music around the campfire and star gazing with the Western Montana Astronomical Association.
Pre-registration is required at www.travelersrest.org or by calling the park office at 273-4253. Check-in begins at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 28 with activities beginning at 2 p.m. The event will end following breakfast and a scavenger hunt on Sunday, June 29.
Co-sponsored by Missoula Parks and Recreation, Travelers’ Rest Preservation & Heritage Association, Missoula Children and Nature Network, Community Medical Center and the National Environmental Education Foundation, this event is free to the public. A limited amount of camping gear (sleeping bags, sleeping pads, tents and cook stoves) is available.

Stevi playground design day
On Saturday, June 28 from 6 to 8 p.m., the public is invited to Design Day for the new play structure for Lewis and Clark Park in Stevensville. The event will be held at Light of the Valley Church, corner of Hwy 93 and N. Kootenai. Ideas for the design will be unveiled, and information will be presented about upcoming activities and events for the project over the next year. There will also be a carnival fundraiser for the kids, with prizes, food and beverages. Everyone is welcome. Our Savior Lutheran 60th anniversary
Our Savior Lutheran Church of Stevensville celebrates its 60th anniversary on Sunday, June 29. Worship is at 9 a.m., followed by Sunday school and Bible class. During fellowship time after the service, the congregation will celebrate 60 years of God’s grace. As Lutherans, the congregation feels it is totally necessary to celebrate any wonderful event with refreshments. The community is invited for cake! Our Savior, located at 184 Pine Hollow Road, is affiliated with the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. To find the church, head south from Stevensville on the Eastside Highway. One mile past the intersection of Main Street and Middle Burnt Fork Road, turn east on Pine Hollow. Cross the tracks and the canal, and the church will be on your left, marked by three crosses.
