Shop Local Raffle
The Hamilton Downtown Association “Shop Local Raffle” continues through Daly Days, at 5 p.m. on Friday, July 25.
Enter the raffle by presenting three receipts, dated between June 1, 2014 and July 25, from any HDA member business. Those businesses are listed on their website, www.hamiltondowntownassociation.org and will be made available at numerous locations. Three receipts will earn one raffle entry, and participants will have three raffle prizes to choose from. Three more receipts—in any amount—will earn another raffle entry, with no limit on the number of entries.
HDA members include many local banks and financial institutions, and even non-profit organizations. Raffle entries can also be earned by presenting deposit slips or donation receipts for those members.
The amount of the receipt does not change one’s odds of winning – a receipt for a small transaction counts just the same as a large transaction. The important thing is to support the community by shopping at HDA member businesses.
Receipts can be validated and raffle entries deposited at the Ravalli Republic office, at 232 West Main Street in Hamilton, or Bitterroot Drug, at 211 West Main Street, during their regular business hours, or at a booth on Main Street during Daly Days.
Receipts will be stamped and returned to participants, for their own records.
Raffle prizes will be posted at the HDA website, and at the redemption locations.
For more information, contact the HDA at 360-9124, or by email at hamiltondowntownassociation@gmail.com.

BPL Fellowship Club
The Bitterroot Public Library’s Fellowship Club will be meeting on Thursday, June 12 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. to discuss “Choosing Joy in the Midst of Crisis” by Dolly Mae.
Dolly Mae’s book offers a way to move through life’s crossroads gracefully. It stresses the fact that, since change will always happen, it’s how we meet that experience that determines who we really are.
This is a book that shows how to find joy and remain happy when life seems to bring more than we can endure. No matter what we experience: heartache, illness, despair, grief, loss, or financial struggle, “Choosing Joy” shows us how to regain our balance and be happy once again. A strong point Mae makes is that we are living in a fear-based culture that perpetuates victimhood and provides rescuers. The consequences of becoming victims in this system are illness, disempowerment, and denial that we are the creators of our lives. Filled with thought-provoking statements backed by examples, the book offers a practical list of ten ways to choose joy and help pull ourselves out of the victim-rescuer-persecutor triangle. It covers a large array of circumstances, all from the perspective of Mae’s basic theme – choosing.
Dolly Mae is a best-selling author, a worldwide lecturer, a publisher, a frequent guest on syndicated and cable TV and on many talk radio shows. A full time spiritual intuitive counselor and lecturer, she teaches personal empowerment on a variety of topics, including relationships, developing intuition, and running a business on metaphysical principles.
The Fellowship Club meets every second Thursday of the month in the West Meeting Room of the Bitterroot Public Library and is free and open to anyone seeking to promote individual and collective well being.

First-time Homebuyers Class
The Bitter Root Resource Conservation and Development Area, Inc. (Bitter Root RC&D) will hold a nationally-certified First-Time Homebuyer Group Education class June 16-18 from 6 to 9 p.m. (each night) at the Human Resource Council Building, 316 N. Third St., Hamilton. Attendance on all three nights is required for certification. The charge is $50 per household to cover instruction and the cost of reference materials. Attendance also entitles participants to free individual financial counseling and post-purchase counseling. Pre-registration is preferred but you can register at the door the first evening. Sara Ann Briggs is the instructor. Briggs is also a housing counselor and provide one-on-one counseling.
The time couldn’t be better to purchase a home because interest rates remain low. The first step to the home-buying process is pre-purchase counseling. Certification is required in order to qualify for many loans (MBOH, Rural Development, FHA, etc.). Most lenders require that anyone on the loan must take the course. Additionally, HUD requires that the class be taken prior to signing a purchase contract; therefore, Briggs urges first-time homebuyers to not wait until the last minute to take the class. Offered will be up to date information on Rural Direct Loans (now 3.75% rate) and HRC Down Payment Assistance Deferred Payment loans. Most importantly, the class will help novice homebuyers maneuver through the entire process of homeownership. Call the Bitter Root RC&D office at 363-5450 to reserve your space. Please provide your phone number and email address along with your full name (last spelled out) if leaving a voice message, or you may email bitterrootrcd@cybernet1.com, providing phone number, full name(s), etc.
