Stevensville – J. Carter Mason, 72, of Stevensville, passed away Thursday, March 27th, at St. Patrick Hospital of natural causes. He was born April 9th, 1941, in Helena, Montana, to James and Donna Mason. The family moved to the Bitterroot in 1951. He attended Lone Rock School, Stevensville High School, and the University of Montana.
Carter worked for many years at Mincoff’s and several other auto part stores. He also ranched, raising hay and Angus cattle. In his later years, working in fire camps was one of his favorite jobs. After retiring, he enjoyed spending winters in Arizona.
Carter was an old car enthusiast, and loved going out in his restored ‘34 Ford pickup.
Carter is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Judy, his mother, Donna Mason Savochka, his son Jeremy (Julie), granddaughter Carver Anne, and stepson Paddy Culham (Cher), as well as many dear friends.
The family wishes to thank St. Patrick Hospital and the Missoula medical community for the excellent care Carter received over the years.
