As a humble Christian who loves nature, I value and respect God’s creation of wolves. Montana’s wolf management seems to become more liberal every year, allowing more methods for killing these smart, social animals. The wolf-hating mania in Montana and the West is irrationally based and on the rise, with management agencies mostly ignoring best available science.
Montana’s wolf management may be overly aggressive and politicized, but Idaho’s is simply outrageous and deplorable, and I’m afraid Montana is moving in the direction of our western neighbor. If we Montanans don’t start speaking up for a rational wolf management policy, then we may go the extreme way of Idaho.
Case in point: Did you know it’s permissible in Idaho to buy horses at auction, lead them up into the mountains, kill them, and use them as bait to shoot or trap wolves? This is what Idaho Fish and Game allows, and it’s sickening, inhumane, and should offend any friend of horses, or believer in fair and ethical hunting or trapping.
I may respect and value wolves’ place in the natural world, but I love horses. I owned and rode horses from the Great Depression into the 1990s—over 50 years. I have so many fond memories of my horses over the years. For me, like many folks here in the Bitterroot, horses are a cherished centerpiece of my life story. So it sickens and maddens me to hear of this despicable practice that’s allowed in Idaho.
I hope Montanans have better sense and respect not only for wolves, but for the horses we ride, work, and love. Do not allow Montana Fish and Game to follow Idaho’s inhumane lead. Tell Idaho they should be ashamed. And head out to the barn and hug your horse!

Ahhh.. the good ole days when “christians” sacrificed animals to their “god”. Let’s not forget “Christians” aren’t supposed to judge their fellow humans.
Moving along, there is NOTHING in Idaho F &G regs that mentions this. Let’s not forget the fact that wolves will eat a horse alive, instead of putting a bullet in it’s head.
