Stevensville – Alice C. Brown, born May 23, 1936, passed away on March 1, 2014 after a long illness. Alice was raised in Billings, the daughter of Joseph F. and Irene K. (Gifford) Kehrwald, and graduated from Billings Central High School in 1954. A devout Catholic, Alice married Thomas J. Brown on November 20, 1954 and raised six children.
In 1978, Alice and Tom moved to Stevensville where Alice owned and operated the Lunchwagon Sandwich Shop for 15 years, retiring in 1997. There, the local coffee clutches found a home and hearth which is an enduring legacy in Stevensville.
Alice is survived by her husband of nearly 60 years, Thomas J. Brown of Stevensville, and two siblings, Clifford Kehrwald of Sheridan, WY, and Christine (Dave) Ludlow of Ocean Shores, WA. Her six children, Thomas G. (Cheryl) Brown (Renton, WA); Donald J. (Kathy) Brown (Santa Clarita, CA); Kathleen (Bruce) Peterson (Missoula, MT); Cynthia (Jim) Crews (Stevensville, MT); Frederick (Michele) Brown (Bonney Lake, WA); Cheryl (Stan) Rogers (Powell, WY) will carry her legacy and always think of her when preparing meals. In addition, she is survived by 13 “wonderful” grandchildren and six “precious” great grandchildren.
It is difficult to sum up a life but Alice lived, loved, and reminded us to always be kind and make a difference while we’re here for whatever time we have. We’ll miss her.
A visitation will be held Friday, March 7, 2014 from 4-7 p.m. with a Rosary and Vigil service to follow at St. Mary’s Mission Catholic Church.
