1936 – 2014
Stevensville – On February 4, 2014, Dora Dilts died peacefully at home after losing her battle with cancer.
She was born March 12, 1936 in Yakima, WA to Merrill and Gladys Newby. She spent her young years in the apple orchards of Yakima. Her family came to Montana when she was nine. She attended Billings Senior High School. She met and married Joseph Dilts. For many years, she, her husband and children, roamed the hills and ghost towns of Montana. She played women’s softball in Billings for many years and enjoyed the company of her many friends.
She and her husband transferred to Nashua, MT until they retired in 1997. They then moved to Stevensville to be near their children. Many happy years were spent at the Stevensville Museum with her many friends there.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Dilts, and also a son, Daniel Dilts. She is survived by a brother, Irvin Newby of Boise, ID; a daughter, Susan Spitzer of Missoula; a son, Joseph Dilts of Champaign, IL; a granddaughter, Jodi Cline of Missoula; a granddaughter, Krystal Grace of Champaign, IL; a great-granddaughter, Violet Grace of Champaign, IL.
A memorial service to celebrate Dora’s life will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at 1 p.m. at the Community Baptist Church, 409 Buck Street in Stevensville. Condolences and memories may be shared with the family at www.whitesittfuneralhome.com.
