The Stevensville Lady Yellowjackets took on Class AA Sentinel on Thursday in Stevensville. Stevensville is struggling to find a consistent scoring leader and had trouble finding the basket against the taller Missoula team. The Lady ‘Jackets are a scrappy team and much like the insect they are named for, tenacious against their opponents. However a lack of size in the middle and low shooting percentages have plagued the team.
Katie Malachinski is a scrapper in the middle and does grab some nice rebounds. Carly Vercruyssen is the general on the floor and runs the offense. She’s quick and can shoot a long ball. Carly Sebastian brings speed and outside shooting as well. What Kayla Peterson lacks in height in the middle, she makes up for in strength and determination. These players are the core of the team. Peterson finished the night against Sentinel with 11 points.

Saturday, the Lady Yellowjackets took on Butte Central in Butte. Stevi got off to a slow start and never recovered in the conference game, losing 58-28. Peterson again had 11 points to lead the team.

Corvallis took on the tough Sentinel team on Friday. Once again the Spartans jumped out to an early lead and went on to win, 66-20. The Missoula school has two players that will play Division 1 basketball next year. Olivia Roberts has signed to play at Wyoming and Maddie Keast will play for the Lady Griz.
Corvallis was led by Courtney Albright’s seven points.

On Saturday, Hamilton was host to Sentinel and once again, a strong first quarter set the tone for Sentinel. The Spartans outscored the Lady Broncs, 16-3, in the first quarter and went on to win, 57-34. Taylor Goligoski finished with 17 points including a trey. Bri Huggans and Kloie Nye also scored a bucket from beyond the arc.

Florence took on Ronan in 6B action. The Lady Falcons edged ahead at the half by five and then held on to take a 41-36 win. Nikki Schurg finished with 10 points to lead Florence who moved to 3-2 in conference play.

Florence played Thompson Falls on Saturday. Thompson Falls jumped out to a nine point lead at the end of the first quarter and held a five point lead at the end of the first half. But then Florence went to town and took the lead. They went on to win, 63-58. Carli O’Brian and Megan Kowalski each had 17 points and Megan Byrne added 13 more.

The Lady Tigers of Darby picked up a couple of wins over the weekend. First on the docket was the Lady Lynx of Lincoln. The two teams were only separated by one point at the end of the first quarter but then Darby got busy and scored 17 points while holding Lincoln to only four in the second quarter. They built upon that in the third, knocking down 21 points while allowing only three for Lincoln. The Lady Tigers went on to win, 54-26.
Lacey Dolcater led the scoring with 15 points and Keely Ehmann had 10 points.

Saturday, the Lady Tigers took on rival Victor in Darby. Victor was without one of their starters, Ryanne Tracy, who was at the National High School Rodeo Convention in West Virginia.
Darby jumped out to an early lead and built upon that in the third quarter when they scored 22 points while holding Victor to only six points. They went on to win, 58-39. Lacey Dolcater finished with 19 and Ehmann added 16 more. Sarai McCollaum was also in double figures with 10 points.
Freshman Payton Tillotson had 15 points to lead Victor’s scoring.

Victor played Drummond on Friday night. The Lady Pirates were unable to muscle their way around the Lady Trojans who are a physical, shooting team. The Lady Pirates lost, 68-21. Haley Tillotson led the scoring for Victor with 14 points. They now have a record of 3-6 in conference play and 4-8 overall.
