The awards for quality care are given out based on a strict and measurable assessment of the hospital’s activities and its success
rate with regard to a number of criteria. For heart care, MDMH ranks amongst the top 2% in the nation. Factored into the ranking is the timeliness of delivering medications and treatment, the length of stays and the number of patients who must return after treatment.
This year the hospital also won an award for being the most wired, for being one of the most computerized and digitized hospitals in the nation. According to Pam Chaplin, MDMH Business Analyst, the installation of modern information networks and digitization of the records has brought about enormous changes and improvements to the quality of health care delivered.
The information system shortens almost every aspect of patient care, from check in to check out and beyond. It provides each caregiver with an instant link to all other doctors and services, including links to the pharmacy and to a patient’s private doctor and post treatment at their home. It has improved and hastened laboratory work and dramatically shortened the response time. It makes a large amount of information available on a need-to-know basis to every specialist that might be needed to handle any particular case.
