The Bitterroot Public Library’s Fellowship Club will be meeting on Thursday, January 9 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. to discuss “The Shadow Effect: Illuminating the Hidden Power of Your True Self” by Deepak Chopra, Debbie Ford, and Marianne Williamson.
New York Times bestselling authors and internationally acclaimed teachers have joined together to share their knowledge on one of the most crucial obstacles to happiness we face: the shadow.
The shadow exists within all of us. It is a part of us and yet we spend most of our life running from it. But far from being scary, our dark side holds the promise of a better, more fulfilling life. Our shadow makes itself known every day. It is the reason we get furious over a friend showing up ten minutes late, yell at our parents or kids when they have done nothing wrong, and sabotage our own success at the worst possible time. Until we are able to embrace our dualistic nature, we will continue to hurt ourselves and those closest to us and fall short of our potential.
Combining the wisdom of these three experts, “The Shadow Effect” is a practical and profound guide to discovering the gifts of our shadow. These three luminaries powerfully pierce the veil of our unclaimed self, releasing us from the past and propelling us on a journey to wholeness. No longer living a half-life, we are capable of achieving our dreams and reclaiming the happiness that is our birthright.
The Fellowship Club meets every second Thursday of the month in the West Meeting Room of the Bitterroot Public Library and is free and open to anyone seeking to promote individual and collective well being. Call 363-1670, or email jacostant@gmail.com, for more information.

In December, Skip Horner led a small group of adventurers on a skiing expedition to Antarctica. He chartered a 67′ steel-hulled sloop out of Ushuaia, Argentina, the southernmost city in the world, and they sailed 770 miles across the treacherous Drake Passage to and from the Antarctic Peninsula. Then for two weeks they sailed through an archipelago of glacier-covered islands along the mainland, dodging icebergs and avoiding the pack-ice, as they chose new ski ascents and descents each day.
Skip has guided a wide variety of adventures worldwide for over 40 years. He was the first to guide the 7 Summits, the highest mountain on every continent. He led the first descents of over a dozen wild rivers on five continents, including the Zambezi, the Indus and the Yangtse. He has skied the highest peaks in the Arctic and the Antarctic, led camel caravans across the Sahara, and chased solar eclipses across three continents. Skip is a popular lecturer and an accomplished photographer, and he lives in Victor.
