Corvallis still perfect at the net

The Corvallis Blue Devils maintained their perfect season with a win over Dillon on Saturday on the volleyball court. They will be the hosts for the Western A Divisional tournament this weekend. The top two teams from that tournament will move on to the state tournament in Bozeman next weekend.

Corvallis topped Dillon – 25-22, 25-22, 25-8 – to seal the conference championship. Joanna Avery and Kelsey Irwin each had 11 kills and Avery had three blocks. Laura Berner knocked down three aces.

Friday night, the Blue Devils and Hamilton Broncs, who will have the No. 2 seed in the tournament, met. Corvallis won the match in three games, 25-17, 25-17, 25-17. Irwin and Chantel Jessop each had seven kills for Corvallis. Avery had two blocks and Jessop had six aces. Hamilton was led by Penny Gwynn who had nine kills. Emarie Majors had five blocks.

Corvallis def. Hamilton, 25-17, 25-17, 25-17.

Kills – Hamilton 16 (Penny Gwynn 9), Corvallis 29 (Kelsey Irwin 7, Chantel Jessop 7). Blocks – Hamilton 6 (Emarie Majors 5), Corvallis 3 (Joanna Avery 2). Digs – Hamilton 44 (Shannon Casale 12), Corvallis 51 (Katie Patterson 14). Assists – Hamilton 16 (Makayla Horvath 13), Corvallis 26 (Alex Price 18). Aces – Hamilton 5 (Jaylee Albert 2, Ellie Hurlbert 2), Corvallis 13 (Jessop 6).

Hamilton will have a No. 3 seed  in the tournament. They defeated Anaconda  on Friday. Gwynn had 17 kills in the match and Shannon Casale had 27 digs for the Lady Broncs.

Hamilton def. Anaconda, 27-25, 25-23, 16-25, 25-22.

Kills – Hamilton 42 (Penny Gwynn 17), Anaconda 36 (Taylor Flynn 13). Blocks – Hamilton 8 (Ellie Hurlbert 4, Emarie Majors 4), Anaconda 5 (Five with one). Digs – Hamilton 84 (Shannon Casale 27), Anaconda 65 (Courtney Moodry 20). Assists – Hamilton 39 (Makayla Horvath 36), Anaconda 32 (Kaylea Jorgensen 23). Aces – Hamilton 9 (Kelsey Pitzinger 2, Jaylee Albert 2), Anaconda 8 (Jorgensen 2, Khali Knadler 2).

Stevensville rallied to defeat Butte Central on Thursday in five games. Coach Erin O’Reilly said her team wasn’t ready to give up and fought back after dropping the first game and the third game in a hard-fought match. She said the distractions of Halloween and Senior Night may have been distractions but that she was proud of how they came back to win the match.

Mackinzie Zimmerman and Kyla Paulsen each had 13 kills and three aces. Katie Malachinski had four blocks.

Stevensville def. Butte Central, 18-25, 25-18, 21-25, 25-11, 15-10.

Kills – Butte Central 44 (Sadie Harrington 14), Stevensville 53 (Mackinzie Zimmerman 13, Kyla Paulsen 13). Blocks – Butte Central 9 (Harrington 7), Stevensville 9 (Katie Malachinski 4). Digs – Butte Central 71 (Cassidy McGree 18), Stevensville 112 (Carly Vercruyssen 36). Assists – Butte Central 37 (Emily St. John 37), Stevensville 47 (Megan Elam 24). Aces – Butte Central 4 (Shawnee Hjelt 2), Stevensville 11 (Paulsen 3, Zimmerman 3).

Florence finished with a perfect conference record and the No. 1 seed at the Western B Divisional. That tournament will be in Florence and will begin on Thursday.

The Lady Falcons topped Deer Lodge in four games for the championship. Tess Porch knocked down 15 kills and Megan Kowalski had two blocks.

Florence def. Deer Lodge, 25-22, 25-17, 18-25, 25-18, championship.

Kills – Florence 41 (Tess Porch 15), Deer Lodge 29 (Michele Christnacht 9, Dani Walker 8). Blocks – Florence 7 (Megan Kowalski 2.5), Deer Lodge 3 (Shayla Therriault 2). Digs – Florence 97 (Kristyne Drozdz 37), Deer Lodge 56 (Lacie Thomas 14). Assists – Florence 41 (Rylie Hawkins 34), Deer Lodge 27 (Bailee Senecal 21). Aces – Florence 6 (Drozdz 3), Deer Lodge 8 (Christnacht 3).

Florence topped Ronan in a lop-sided match to advance to the championship match.

Florence def. Ronan, 25-8, 25-14, 25-16.

Kills – Florence 29 (Sabrina Hopcroft 11), Ronan 17 (Alaina Madsen 5). Blocks – Florence 5 (Jessica Dufresne 3), Ronan 4 (Raymi Clairmont 3). Digs – Florence 57 (Kristyne Drozdz 19), Ronan 48 (Danielle Richwine 14). Assists – Florence 27 (Rylie Hawkins 25), Ronan 14 (Christine Robinson 13). Aces – Florence 8 (Josie McCann 3), Ronan 4 (Richwine 2).

Darby finished fourth at the District 9 volleyball tournament in Philipsburg.

Stevensville will play Dillon at 6 pm  on Thursday in the opening match of the tournament. Hamilton will take on Butte Central at 8pm. Corvallis has a first round bye and will play the winner of the Stevensville/Dillon game at 11am on Friday.
