Pirates, Broncs gaining momentum

October 22, 2013 by Jean Schurman

The Victor Pirates are in a four way tie for first place in the Western C football conference. They are tied with Superior, Drummond and Charlo. The Pirates have already played Superior, who they lost to; and Drummond, who they beat. Their final regular season game will be this Saturday in Victor against Charlo. Drummond will be at Superior. The winners of the two games will be tied for first with the top seed to be determined by a complicated formula.

Victor put up 66 points, including 40 in the second quarter alone, to defeat Darby who had 19 points. With starting quarterback Matt Kittel still on the sidelines with an injury, Nate Bishop stepped in to lead the Pirates. He completed 5-of-5 passes and ran for 121 yards of the 367 total yards for Victor. Bishop had scoring runs of 31 yards and 35 yards. Freshman Jesse Pearson scored on a 12-yard pass from Bishop and again on a nine yard run. Terrell Sherrill had scoring runs of 15 and eight yards. Brady Tuttle had a 28-yard run. Austin Lewis ran 24 yards for a TD and even center GP Monta had a 10-yard run into the end zone.

Darby scored once in the first quarter when Garrett McCormack caught a 28-yard pass from Joe Caicedo. He also kicked the PAT. Darby scored twice more in the fourth quarter. Caicedo made an eight-yard run into the end zone and then William Westfall caught an 11-yard pass from Rope Rennaker. Darby will finish their season at Noxon on Friday night.

Hamilton went to the air for four touchdowns against Butte Central and came away with a 31-21 Southwest A win. Bronc quarterback Josh Bauder went 16 of 27 with 304 yards and two interceptions in the win. He also had 54 yards on the ground on 12 carries. Bauder targeted Kris Cleveland from nine yards out in the second quarter and then hit him again in the third quarter for a 38-yard scoring pass. Teague Blome caught a 56-yard pass in the second quarter and a 10-yard scoring pass in the fourth quarter. Karill Apendaile put the Broncs on the board first with a 32-yard field goal. He also kicked all four PATs. Hamilton will take on Stevensville Friday night in Stevensville.

Stevensville lost to Anaconda, 27-12. The ‘Jackets scored when Jared Schultz hit Bo Zeiler for an 84 yard scoring pass. Schultz hit Bryce Torrey from 10 yards out for their other touchdown.

Corvallis fell to Dillon, 42-7. Florence also lost.
