Hamilton wins own race
The hills didn’t slow the racers down at the Hamilton Cross Country meet at the Hamilton Golf Course on Saturday. Although the field was not as large as it has been in the past, Hamilton easily won the boys race. Anthony Schmalz clocked a 16:05 to win the race. Easton Albert and Cameron Meikle finished third and fourth to help in the Bronc scoring.
Polson won the girls team scoring, thanks in part to the top three runners in the area not competing. Sadi Henderson, Kacie Stewart and Isabella Pape sat this race out, in part to rest both mentally and physically according to their coach, Joanne Cleveland of Corvallis.
“They are like the top three girls in the state and they’ve been beating each other up all season and so we just decided to give them a break, both mentally and physically. We need them for the next couple of weeks,” she said. “With Divisionals in a couple of weeks, we need them to be 100 percent.”
Makena Morely of Bigfork won the girls’ race with a time of 17:39, just under three minutes faster than second place. Darby’s Lily Lang finished fourth and was the highest finisher for the valley.
