Stevensville Pantry Partners food bank is in need of turkeys for the Christmas Food Box Distribution. The Pantry is expecting to provide boxes to 380 families this year. Blood drive
The American Red Cross strives to collect over 700 pints of blood to meet the needs of patients in this area alone. In the Montana service area every 27 minutes someone needs blood. Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital helps the Red Cross meet this need by sponsoring blood drives four times a year. The next scheduled MDMH Blood Drive will be on Thursday, October 31 from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in Conference Rooms B/C. To schedule your blood drive appointment call Gary Schulz at 375-4451. ARTrageous in the Bitterroot is a celebration of art and artists across the entire creative sector with special emphasis on the visual, performing, and culinary arts. Events include a Gala Party on Friday, November 1 where guests will help select the first pieces for the Bitterroot’s own Montana art(ists) Collection, an Art Show & Sale on Saturday, November 2 with 100 Montana artists from across the state, an ARTwalkabout on First Friday and Saturday on Hamilton and Stevensville Main Streets, Montana Bricolage Artists Quilt Show, Holly Jolly Craft Show, the Hamilton Players final play of the season, and a DINEaround focusing on the culinary arts at 11 valley restaurants, featuring lamb from a local ranch as a key ingredient. Daly Mansion craft show
The Daly Mansion Preservation Trust invites you to have lunch in Hattie’s Kitchen and do all of your Christmas shopping early at The Daly Mansion’s annual Holly Jolly Craft Show and Sale Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, November 1-3. North Valley Pachyderm Club

Book signing
Come meet local Florence author, Elliott Oppenheim, at Valley Drug & Variety on Friday, November 1 from 4 to 6 p.m. Elliott will be signing copies of his titillating and thought provoking novel, “Kaleidoscope.” After traveling the world, Oppenheim settled on a horse ranch in Florence where he writes every day, saying, “I’m torn between cleaning stables and my compulsion to write.” Actually, that’s no contest.
First Friday in Hamilton
First Friday in downtown Hamilton will be something special this Friday, November 1, as the art galleries, along with many other businesses, combine with the ARTrageous festival to honor the economic benefits of the arts in our community.
In addition to galleries and shops hosting artists of all kinds for Friday evening’s “ART-walkabout” from 6 to 8 p.m., many Hamilton restaurants will be participating in the ARTrageous “dine-around,” with local chefs preparing dinner specials utilizing locally-produced lamb.
Both the “ART-walkabout” and the dine-around will continue on Saturday, with galleries and restaurants encouraging patrons to indulge themselves after a visit to the Montana artists showcase and sale at the fairgrounds, a centerpiece of the Montana Artrepreneur Project.
The Hamilton Downtown Association invites everyone to celebrate the role of the arts in our lives, in all its forms, with live music, dramatic readings, and the culinary arts including craft beer brewing and coffee roasting, all on display in downtown Hamilton this Friday.

A Cappella Society CD release
Come celebrate with The Montana A Cappella Society as they release their new CD, “Stories Of America”. School of Music celebration
The Bitterroot School of Music, in conjunction with The Music Box, is having a celebration November 1 and 2 from 5 to 8 pm. at its new location. The event will include tours of the school with the staff and instructors, programming information and the art of landscape artist Rich Lande. The Bitterroot School of Music will present its first annual “Autumn Festival” of performers. On Friday, Josh Farmer, John Smith, Jenn Adams and Special Guests will be featured, and on Saturday, Louie Bond and Kimberly Carlson, Gary Jenson, Clem Small and the Whisky Gulch Swingaderos will be featured. Small bites from local culinary artisans will be available. This is a free event. Donations to the school are welcome and appreciated.
Fish Fry
The Knights of Columbus will hold a First Friday Fish Fry on Friday, November 1 from 5 to 6:45 p.m. at St. Francis Pastoral Center, 411 S. 5th, Hamilton. The meal consists of fish, fries, coleslaw, mac n cheese, vegetables, dessert and soft beverage. It is “all you can eat”. The price for the meal is $10.00 per person children under nine are free. NVPL First Friday concert
First Friday is a monthly celebration sponsored by the Main Street Association of Stevensville. Each month the North Valley Public Library participates by hosting a fun-filled event free to the public. On First Friday, November 1, from 6 to 8 p.m., Will Bluefield will play guitar and sing a variety of folk, blues and rock songs. He has played with Country Joe McDonald, John Fogarty, and Wild Willie and the Howling Wolves. He has been on radio and TV in the San Francisco Bay Area. Scout project ribbon cutting
Life Scout Ethan Fadely will be completing his Eagle Scout project during November’s First Friday in Stevensville. A ribbon cutting will be held on November 1 at 6:30 p.m. at Stevensville Town Hall. Ethan has spent over six months gathering information about the Buck brothers’ contributions to Stevensville and Ravalli County. He also collected donations and had a fundraiser to pay for two benches and a plaque commemorating Amos, Henry, Fred and George Buck. A work party in July painted and assembled the benches in front of the Stevensville Town Hall. The project will be complete with the plaque set by the benches on Buck Avenue across from the still standing Charles Amos Buck house. The only living descendant of the Buck brothers, Carolyn Mickens, will attend the ribbon cutting ceremony. The Buck brothers are credited with the first frame house built in Stevensville, bringing the first red McIntosh apple trees to the valley and helping to create Ravalli County with the county seat in Stevensville.
Art exhibit
River’s Mist Gallery of Fine Art will feature the Pastel Society of the Northern Rockies for the month of November. The Pastel Society includes artists throughout the western states along with acclaimed local artists. This collection of pastel work includes still lifes, portraits, flowers, wildlife, abstracts and landscapes with each piece reflecting the artist’s interpretation of light. An artist’s reception will be held Friday, November 1 from 6 to 9 pm. The show runs November 1st through December 2. River’s Mist Gallery is located at 317 Main Street in Stevensville. Solar power presentation
Nikhil Jaisinghani will give a presentation and discussion on solar power for lighting villages in India entitled “Providing a Brighter Future, Two Solar Panels at a Time” on First Friday, November 1 at 7 p.m. at the Stevensville Hotel. Nikhil, the son of Loey Knapp of Stevensville, is the owner of Mera Gao Power. Mera Gao Power (My Village Power) builds, owns, and operates solar powered micro grids providing some of the world’s poorest people with access to electricity. 400 million people in India don’t have electricity in their homes. Many of these people live in remote, poor, farming communities and earn less than $0.50 a day. MGP provides such communities with dependable, high quality lighting and phone charging in their homes to help them earn more money, study, and entertain themselves at night. MGP currently serves 14,000 households and 70,000 people. The public is welcome and refreshments will be served.

Health Fair and Cholesterol Screening
On November 2, Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital is having a free Cholesterol Screening from 7 to 10:30 a.m. with same day results, and a community Health Fair from 7:30 a.m. to 12 noon. The Health Fair will feature quick health checks, exercise and nutritional information, and a combating osteoporosis demonstration. Visit all the booths and you can enter a drawing for a free gift. High cholesterol affects over 65 million Americans and left untreated could increase your risk for heart disease. Know your cholesterol levels, how it affects your health, and how to manage your levels. Ravalli County residents participating in the free cholesterol screening should drink plenty of water, fast and avoid caffeinated drinks for 8 to 10 hours, be 18 years and older, and bring ID. Stevensville Methodist Bazaar
The annual Fall Bazaar and Luncheon sponsored by the Stevensville United Methodist Women will be held Saturday, November 2 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 216 College in Stevensville. Breakfast of homemade cinnamon rolls and coffee and lunch of homemade soups, pie and rolls will be available. There will be handmade crafts, homemade gifts, treasures and collectibles, baked goods and jams, books and media and a silent auction. All proceeds go to mission work.

A flea market will be held Saturday, November 2 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Eagles Hall, 125 N. 2nd Street in Hamilton. There will be 30 vendors and 64 tables. Lunch will be available from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. This is ppen to the public.
Halloween Fun Run
A Halloween Fun Run/Walk will be held Saturday, November 2 at 9 a.m. at Right to Bare Arms Exercise gym in Darby. 1 mile, 5K and 10K options. Registration is $5, no fee for kids 10 and under. Arthritis exercise classes
Do you have concerns about exercising with arthritis? Do you need help learning about how to exercise safely and effectively? Then the Arthritis Foundation Exercise and Walk with Ease Programs being offered by the Marcus Daly Rehabilitation Center are designed for you. These programs are specifically tailored to assist people who have arthritis get exercise to help reduce pain and improve their overall health, but you don’t have to have arthritis to participate! Both classes begin Monday, November 4 and will meet Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays for six weeks. Walk with Ease meets from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. and includes different health education topics, warm-up and cool-down exercises, stretches, walking and a physical activity log book to track progress. The Arthritis Foundation Exercise class meets from 12 to 1 p.m. It includes health education, exercise and relaxation activities. Exercises can be modified to fit individual participants so everyone can participate. Dale Driemeyer, with the Selway Corporation in Stevensville, will be speaking at the next meeting of the Hamilton Rotary club, on Monday, November 4. Bitterrootdalen Lodge, Sons of Norway, will hold a whist tournament on Tuesday, November 5 at 5 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Hamilton. Whist and other card games will be part of the monthly social meeting, since there have been requests from the community by those who play whist, and those who want to learn. The public is invited. Fly Fishers of the Bitterroot
The monthly meeting of Fly Fishers of the Bitterroot (FFB) is Tuesday, November 5 at BJ’s restaurant in Hamilton. The social hour is from 6 to 7 p.m. Drinks and dinner are optional. The presentation is “Slovenia: Fishing for Marble Trout.” Phil Romans, one of the fishing club founders, is a retired educator, a dedicated fly fisher, and has been guiding part time on the Bitterroot for over 20 years. Check out his trip to an exotic location fishing for very large trout and greyling on small tippet. In his words, “An incredible trip to one of the most beautiful places on the planet (next to the Bitterroot).” Phil’s presentation will be supported by Dan Shepard from Grizzly Hackle in Missoula. Bitterrooters for Planning will hold its annual membership meeting on Wednesday, November 6 at the Hamilton Community Center, 223 S. 2nd. Doors will open at 5 p.m. with the meeting starting at 5:30. The honored guest, nationally known conservationist Brock Evans, will be at the meeting and dinner. After dinner, Brock will give a public talk at 7:30. Land use lecture
One of America’s seminal environmental activists, Brock Evans, will be in the Bitterroot to offer some landscape-sized perspectives of our valley’s past and present land-use challenges on Wednesday, November 6 at 7:30 p.m. at the Hamilton Community Center, 223 S. 2nd St, Hamilton.
Brock is an advocate, a writer, a lecturer, and a lawyer, but above all, Brock is an environmentalist, and has been involved for decades with many of the watershed land-use battles involving vast tracks of Northwest wilderness. He is currently the president of the Endangered Species Coalition (http://www.stopextinction.org/), Washington DC.
Over the decades, Brock has worked with David Brower, Doris Milner, Stewart and Guy Brandborg and many other icons of America’s conservation movement to save millions of acres of pristine Northern Rockies ecosystems from development.
“Bitterrooters For Planning is an organization dedicated to the intelligent planning of our and our children’s future landscapes,” said board member, Bill LaCroix. “The Bitterroot didn’t become one of the last best places for people to co-exist intimately with relatively intact ecosystems by accident. It took lots of hard, hard work. Anyone interested in a first-class, first-hand perspective on some of those early conservation struggles should come and listen to Brock.”
Bitterrooters for Planning is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, established in 1996. Its mission is to promote comprehensive land-use planning in the Bitterroot valley.
