County may sell Rye Creek property

August 7, 2013 by Editor

By Michael Howell

The County Commissioners are having an appraisal done on a 10-acre piece of property located up Rye Creek as they consider the prospect of selling the land. Commissioner Ron Stoltz said that a few people had asked him if the county would consider selling it. He said the parcel is located on the mountainside way up the road with a small ranch and a few homes located nearby. He said the land was very steep but had a view of Trapper Peak across the valley.

Commissioner J.R. Iman, who also deals in real estate, said that he did not think it was a good time to sell property right now given the state of the economy. He said since the land is not costing the county anything to maintain, it probably made more sense to hold on to it until the market picks up.

Stoltz moved to get an appraisal of the property. State law prohibits the county from selling property at anything less than 90 percent of its appraised value or in some instances as low as 70 percent. The motion to get the appraisal done was passed unanimously.
