Victor – Charles W. Mann, 89, of Victor, passed away Monday morning, July 30, peacefully, at home, after a long and well lived life.
Chuck was born January 23, 1924, in Port Orchard, Washington to Paul and Ada Mann. He grew up in Denver and began his long connection with Montana in the late 1930’s. He joined the Marine Corps during WWII and was recalled to the Korean Conflict. He was badly wounded in Korea, but overcame the disabilities to lead a happy and productive life.
He relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada where he worked for many years before returning to Montana and establishing the Bitterroot Valley Landfill and later Bitterroot Big Iron, a heavy equipment company. On June 7, 1968, in Las Vegas, he married Mary Louise Armstrong, his wonderful partner of many years. They retired and spent winters in Tucson, Arizona and summers outside of Victor, Montana. Chuck became a fulltime Victor resident in 2008.
Chuck was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Victor and was the Past Grand Master of the Daylight Lodge in Las Vegas. Masonry provided his guiding light through life.
He was preceded in death by his wife Mary. He is survived by his stepson, Pat Armstrong and Pat’s wife Yeeson and son, Aaron; his stepdaughter, Karen Armstrong; his adopted son, Bryan Thornton, Bryan’s wife Jill and daughters Kallista and Brianca. In addition he is survived by his sister-in-law Charline Mann and many nieces and nephews. As importantly, Chuck leaves behind many very special friends. All will miss him, but take great joy and comfort in having known him.
Services were held Sunday, August 4th at the Whitesitt Funeral Home in Stevensville.
Memorials can be made to the Victor Senior Center, an important place in his later days.
