NVPL story time
Kids Create Storytime will be held Wednesday, August 14 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the North Valley Public Library. Kids can enjoy stories, fingerplays and songs and create a fun craft. At each storytime, a healthy snack is provided and there is time to play and socialize with new friends. North Valley Public Library is located at 208 Main Street, Stevensville. Stevi substitute teacher training
The Stevensville School will be holding a training session for substitute teachers on Thursday, August 15 from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the 4-8 Building, Room 241 (Orange Pod). There is a pay difference for those who have attended a training session.
NVPL reading program finale
Celebrate the end of the NVPL summer reading program at a library Garden Party on Thursday, August 15 from 11 a.m. to 12 noon. Chip Jasmin will perform tunes for the kids, decorate a fresh-from-the-garden zucchini cupcake, and enjoy the bounty of the community garden. This program is free and open to all. The Stevensville Community Garden is located behind St. Mary’s Mission; the entrance is at the intersection of Ravalli and Charlos streets. For more information, call the library at 777-5061.
Lutheran Preschool open house
Our Savior Lutheran Preschool of Stevensville hosts a preschool open house on Thursday, August 15, from 5 to 7 p.m. Parents of children currently enrolled and those who wish to inquire about fall registration are welcome. Families are invited to bring their young students. In a relaxed atmosphere parents and children can inspect the facility, meet the teachers, get acquainted with classmates, and discuss the program. Participants may come any time between 5 and 7 to this informal gathering.
Preschool opens on Tuesday, September 3 for three-year-olds and September 4 for fours. Openings are available in both classes. Parents wishing to reserve remaining spots or to be placed on a waiting list should call 777-5625 for directions or more information.
Our Savior Lutheran Church, affiliated with the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, is located at 184 Pine Hollow Road. About a mile south of the intersection of Middle Burnt Fork Road and the Eastside Highway, turn east onto Pine Hollow. Cross the tracks and the canal and the church will be on the left, marked by three crosses.
Drum Circle
The Center for Spiritual Living invites everyone to Drum Circle on Thursday, August 15 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at River Park, 401 S. 9th Street in Hamilton. Drumming allows access to the Universal heartbeat that exists within and around all things. Bring your drum, rattles, and other instruments and come be part of the fun. No drum? – No worries! As part of the Bitterroot Community Band Summer Concert Series, the 5 Valley Accordions are performing on Thursday, August 15 at Claudia Driscoll Park. Performance starts at 8 p.m.

Forest Friday Breakfast
Bitterroot National Forest Supervisor Julie King will hold this month’s Forest Friday breakfast on Friday, August 16 at the Coffee Cup Cafe, 500 S. First Street in Hamilton. The public is invited to join her for a no-host breakfast and discussion from 7 to 9 a.m. This month’s topics and speakers include: 2013 Fire Season Update, Rick Floch, Fire Management Officer; and Larry-Bass Logging Operation Project Update, Dan Ritter, Stevensville District Ranger. North Valley Pachyderm Club
The North Valley Pachyderm Club will meet Friday, August 16 at 12 noon at the Frontier Café, Hwy 93 in Stevensville. Chris Stevens will present the final Constitution class on Restoring the Constitution. The North Valley Pachyderm Club meets the first and third Friday of each month and is an educational arm of the Republican Party. All are welcome.

Clothing Giveaway
The King’s Christian Church will hold its 3rd Annual Clothing Give Away Event on Saturday, August 17 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the church, 9830 Valley Grove Drive, Lolo. There will be a large selection of styles and sizes for work, school, or play. You’re invited to come and take what you will use. Oat binding demo
The Tired Iron Club will bind oats with antique farm machinery on Saturday, August 17 at 11 a.m. The binder will be set up at 10:30 a.m. in the oat field just south of Corvallis. Anyone interested is invited to come and watch.
Women’s kayaking class
Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks Becoming an Outdoors-Woman program is sponsoring a kayaking class Saturday, August 17 on the Clark Fork River near Thompson Falls. Participants will learn about kayak safety and paddling strokes before launching for a five-mile float down the Clark Fork River. The fee of $45 includes use of a recreational kayak, life jacket and lunch at the conclusion of the float. The workshop is hosted by the Becoming an Outdoors-Woman program of Northwest Montana. Forest Moon Walk
The Bitterroot National Forest will hold a “Bark Beetle Moon” presentation on Saturday, August 17 at 7 p.m. at the Willoughby Environmental Education Area southeast of Stevensville. Learn about the life cycle of the native mountain pine beetles, how to determine if they are present in a forest stand and forest/homeowner options for controlling their spread and impacts. Dress in layers because the weather in the Forest is often different than it is in town. Guests are also encouraged to bring a lawn chair, flashlight and a jacket. Bob Danley, Outdoor Recreation Planner for the Lee Metcalf National Wildlife Refuge and RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) students will be presenting the program at the Monday, August 19 meeting of the Hamilton Rotary Club. Stevensville School District registration will be held Tuesday, August 20 through Thursday, August 22 from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Students grades K-6 register at Elementary Building C. Students grades 7-12 register at High School Building E. Bring immunization record and birth certificate.
