What can the past teach us for the present and the future?

Come examine and discuss “Small Town Renaissance:

The Story of the Montana Study” on Wednesday, July 31 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Darby Community Public Library meeting room. Register for the book discussion and reserve a library book today.

Posten wrote, “How can the vitality of the small community be recovered – socially, culturally, economically and spiritually? This book is the story of how some men and women engaged in an experiment to strengthen and improve the lot of our small American towns.” The Montana Study took place in the 1940’s with Darby included as one of many small Montana towns seeking to enrich the quality of rural life and strengthen town and community.

BEAR has announced that because of the generosity of individuals and businesses in the community, additional scholarship funds are available for each of the following Summer Camps. • Bitterroot Backpacking Camp: What better way to experience the amazing mountains here? July 30-August 2 for youth entering

BPL Story Time

Join Jamie Ogden for “I Dig Gardens!” story time on Wednesday, July 3 at 10:30 a.m. in the children’s corner or outside if it’s warm at the Bitterroot Public Library in Hamilton.

 

NVPL Kids Create Storytime
Kids Create Storytime will be held Wednesday, July 3 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the North Valley Public Library. Kids Create is an enriching early learning program for toddlers and preschoolers. At each storytime, a healthy snack is provided and there is time to play and socialize with new friends. The Dig into Reading summer program will explore all things underground. BPL Wild Wednesday

Wild Wednesday performances are every Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. on the lawn at the Bitterroot Public Library in Hamilton. Enjoy “Squidbelly,” a puppet rock opera by Bat Honey Duo.

 

Friday, July 5

North Valley Pachyderm Club
The North Valley Pachyderm Club will meet Friday, July 5 at 12 noon at the Frontier Café, Hwy 93 in Stevensville. Guest speaker will be Keith Kubista who will be talking about wolf management and harvesting. The North Valley Pachyderm Club meets the first and third Friday of each month from noon to 1 p.m. The North Valley Pachyderm Club is an educational arm of the Republican Party. All are welcome.

 

First Friday at Library

North Valley Public Library will host Celtic Knots band Friday, July 5 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The Celtic Knots band is a five-member band featuring a wide variety of instruments including fiddle, Irish flute, guitar, penny whistle, Irish drum and Horu pipes. The band plays traditional Scottish and Irish folk music, waltzes, polkas, jigs and reels. This performance is part of the monthly First Friday festivities in downtown Stevensville. Saturday, July 6

NVPL Movie Matinee
Stop by the North Valley Public Library on the first, second and third Saturday of the month for a free and fun flick at 12 noon. Monday, July 8

Faith Lutheran VBS
“Faith Alive” will be the theme as Faith Lutheran Church in Hamilton hosts VBS the week of July 8-12. Four college-age counselors from Flathead Lutheran Bible Camp will lead bible-centered activities that include singing, games, crafts, team building exercises, and worship. Youngsters from the age of three up to entering 6th grade are welcome to attend. Preschoolers will meet from 9 to 11:30 a.m. School-age children will meet from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. (lunch will be served). Registration forms and information are available at the church office, 171 Lewis Lane (363-2964). Pre-registration is not required, but certainly appreciated, as it helps in the planning of numbers for food and crafts. Registration will be held in the lobby/narthex beginning at 8:15 a.m. on July 8. There is no charge to attend VBS, however, donations are gladly accepted to help with expenses.

 

Vacation Bible School
Sonrise Vacation Bible School will be held July 8-12 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon for ages 6-12 at Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 117 West Bridge Road, Hamilton. There will be Bible stories, crafts, skits, games and songs. Contact Tammy Harris at 406-544-7704 for more information.

 

Rotary Club

Veterans For Peace

A group of veterans is working to reactivate the Montana Chapter of Veterans For Peace in Missoula. Meetings are scheduled for Monday, July 8 and August 5 at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship (UUFM) in Missoula (102 McLeod – northeast corner of Higgins and McLeod. Entrance on McLeod). The meetings will begin at 3 p.m. and should be over in 2 hours or less. All interested veterans are welcome to attend. NVPL Book Club

NVPL Herb Chat

An Herb Chat on “Preserving Your Harvest” will be led by Jessica Thomas, Outlaw Herbalist, on Tuesday, July 9 from 12 noon to 1 p.m. at the North Valley Public Library. After months of nurturing, all your hard work and effort in the garden will be coming to fruit. Learn and share simple ideas for preserving your bounty. Explore techniques for drying, making tinctures, oils, vinegars, and freezing. Herb Chats are held every second Tuesday of the month and are informal discussions on the many uses of plants and herbs.
