NVPL ‘Kids Create’ Storytime
Kids Create Storytime will be held Wednesday, June 19 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the North Valley Public Library. Kids Create is an enriching early learning program for toddlers and preschoolers. At each storytime a healthy snack is provided and there is time to play and socialize with new friends. The Dig into Reading summer program begins this week and the storytimes will explore all things underground. North Valley Public Library is located at 208 Main Street, Stevensville. BPL Wild Wednesday
Wild Wednesday performances are on the lawn at 1:30 p.m. at the Bitterroot Public Library in Hamilton. On June 19, Dixie Stark reads with her dinosaur puppets!
SAFE Book Club

‘Dig the Library’ Program
No child left inside the library during summer reading! On Thursday, June 20 from 11 a.m. to 12 noon, the library will travel to the community garden with a story, a fun craft, and time to explore the beautiful new garden space. All families are welcome this Thursday to create a personalized stepping stone, do a little digging, and plant a vegetable in the children’s garden. This program is free and open to all. The Stevensville Community Garden entrance is on Ravalli and Charlos Streets and is located behind St. Mary’s Mission. Maps are available at the library. BPL craft time
“I Dig Crafts” with Sam will take place Thursday, June 20 from 11 a.m. to 12 noon at the Bitterroot Public Library in Hamilton. All ages are welcome to join Sam in the children’s corner to make dinosaur crafts. It’s free!
Lunch and Learn
You’re invited to a Lunch and Learn Program on Thursday, June 20 from 12 to 1:30 p.m. at the Community Room of the North Valley Public Library, Stevensville. Come and meet entrepreneur, Bunny Halstead, co-owner of Rabbit’s Pickled Garlic, to be enlightened and entertained. Bring your lunch if you wish and the Friends of the Library will provide dessert and beverages.
Stevi COW meeting
The Stevensville Town Council Committee of the Whole will meet Thursday, June 20 at 6:30 p.m. at the Town Hall. The council will review the revised draft of the sign ordinance and review the initial draft of the FY2013/14 budget. The public is welcome.
Back Country Horsemen
Bitter Root Back Country Horsemen begin the first in their series of outdoor summer meetings on Thursday, June 20, at the Rock Creek Horse Camp at Lake Como. BPL Family Night
Paleontologist Jack Horner will talk with families about “Growing Up a Dinosaur” on Thursday, June 20 from 7 to 8 p.m. in the West Meeting Room of the Bitterroot Public Library in Hamilton. You won’t want to miss hearing from this author about digging up dinosaur bones.
PFLAG
If you would like more information on how to support the LGBT community and their families the PFLAG program/support group is every third Thursday at 7 p.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 600 S. Third in Hamilton. This month’s program on June 20th is on how the tobacco industry targets the LGBT community. The American Cancer Society estimates that 30,000 people in the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community are killed every year by the tobacco industry.

Forest Friday breakfast
Bitterroot National Forest Supervisor Julie King will hold this month’s Forest Friday breakfast on Friday, June 21 at the Stevi Cafe, 202 Main in Stevensville. The public is invited to join her for breakfast and discussion from 7 to 9 a.m. This month’s topics and speakers include:
• Recreation opportunities. Kaye Olpin, Recreation Program Manager;
• 2013 trail maintenance projects. Deb Gale, Wilderness and Trails Program Manager;
• Summer projects on the Stevensville Ranger District including logging activities at Bass Creek. Dan Ritter, Stevensville District Ranger;
Forest Fridays occur every other month and are a no-host breakfast meeting at a local restaurant with the goal of sharing good food, great company, and some information about what’s happening on the National Forest. For more information contact the Bitterroot National Forest at 363-7100.
Museum rummage sale
A Rummage Sale will be held at the Stevensville Historical Museum during Western Heritage Days, Friday and Saturday, June 21 and 22 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the lawn of the Stevensville Museum, 517 Main Street, Stevensville. Donations of clean, usable items are needed for the sale. All donations are considered to be tax deductible. Donations will be accepted at the Museum building on June 19 and 20 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. or other arrangements can be made by calling Stacey at 777-5126, Ruth at 777-3201, or Dora at 777-3239.”
Driver safety class
A Driver Safety Class will be presented at Marcus Daly Hospital in Hamilton on Friday, June 21. The class begins at 9 a.m. and will last approximately four hours. This safe driving strategies class is designed for drivers age 50 and over but all drivers are welcome. There is no written test. Montana mandates an insurance discount for qualified graduates. The class fee is $12 for AARP members and $14 for non-members. Attendees are requested to bring a check made out to “AARP” for class fees. Pre-registration is requested. North Valley Pachyderm Club
The North Valley Pachyderm Club will meet Friday, June 21, at 12 noon at the Frontier Café, Hwy 93 in Stevensville. Guest speaker will be Tom McElwain, 2nd Vice President of the National Federation of Pachyderm Clubs. The North Valley Pachyderm Club meets the first and third Friday of each month from 12 noon to 1 p.m. The North Valley Pachyderm Club is an educational arm of the Republican Party. All are welcome.
Eagles Taco Night
Bitter Root Eagles Auxiliary #1693 will be selling tacos on Friday, June 21 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Eagles Lodge located at 125 N. 2nd, Hamilton. Proceeds go to Auxiliary charities.
Sons of Norway
Bitterrootdalen Lodge, Sons of Norway will celebrate midsummer night’s eve, also known as St. John’s Eve, or Sankt-Hans on Friday, June 21 at 6 p.m. at the home of Ralph and Karla Niemi, 1847 Old Darby Road, off Skalkaho Road, south of Hamilton. The Lodge will provide a main dish, drinks and service, members and visitors are invited to bring a side dish and a chair. In Norway, it is light all night long, and people celebrate around bonfires on the beaches, so the Lodge will recount the history of the longest day of the year, with a “Norwegian candle”, a tall burning log, and the burning of straw witches. The public is cordially invited.

Stevensville Community Garden Dedication
The Stevensville Community Garden will hold a dedication on Saturday, June 22 at 3 p.m. to celebrate this awesome space and say thank you to the crew who transformed it into a working, breathing community garden. After a short dedication, an Eagle Scout Ceremony will be held to commemorate the accessible bed area built by Scout member Matt Green. All are welcome. Tours of the garden will be available as well as light refreshments. The entrance to the Stevensville Community Garden is at the intersection of Ravalli and Charlos and is located behind St. Mary’s Mission. Senior Ladies Tea
Soroptimist International of Hamilton is again honoring Bitterroot Valley women who have attained the age of 90 years or more at the 8th annual Senior Ladies Tea on Saturday, June 22 at 2 p.m. at Sapphire Lutheran Homes, 501 N. 10th St. in Hamilton. Tea will be served along with a menu of finger foods and sweets and there will be musical entertainment. This is the eighth annual event and is eagerly anticipated by past attendees. Labyrinth Solstice Walk
The 14th annual Summer Solstice Open Walk will be held Saturday, June 22 from sunset to 12 midnight at Redsun Labyrinth, 1802 Pleasant View Drive, Victor. Redsun Labyrinth, a walking meditation, will be surrounded with luminaria to welcome walkers. This is an opportunity to walk the path to your center with intention. Walkers are welcome to bring a stone that will become a permanent part of the labyrinth. There will be a warming bonfire. Pets are not allowed. Forest Moon Walk
A Bear Moon presentation will be held Saturday, June 22 at 7 p.m. at Blodgett Campground. This educational program will be all about bear biology. Do you know how to tell the difference between a black bear and a grizzly bear? The program will cover food storage tips in bear country, and you will learn about bear spray and how to use it. Dress in layers because the weather in the Forest is often different than it is in town. Guests are also encouraged to bring a lawn chair, flashlight and a jacket. Camp Invention!
The nationally acclaimed Camp Invention summer program will be in June 24-28 at Lolo School. Inspired and influenced by the National Inventors Hall of Fame Inductees, and sponsored by the United States Patent and Trademark Office, Camp Invention is a weeklong summer enrichment program for children entering grades one through six. The program creatively immerses and engages its participants through hands-on activities in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). This year’s Camp Invention program is Geo-Quest which features the I Can Invent: Launchitude module, where children use physics and engineering to create a Duck Chucking device using components from everyday objects. Each day, children rotate through integrated modules that employ creative thinking to solve real-world challenges. Children learn vital 21st century life skills such as problem solving and teamwork through imaginative exploration. Even if a child has participated in Camp Invention in the past, they will benefit from an all new curriculum, full of exciting adventures throughout the week. Sexual assault prevention presentation
The Ravalli County Coalition Against Domestic & Sexual Violence will host a conference, “Local Sexual Assault Response and Prevention: Lessons Learned, Trends to Follow” on Wednesday, June 26 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at the Human Resource Council Building, 316 N. Third, in Hamilton. The conference will include presentations on sexual violence prevention, children’s advocacy, sex crime investigation, offender evaluation and treatment, health care needs and state services for victims of crime.
