Fine tuning on the track

With Class B and C schools heading to district track meets and Class A athletes having only one more weekend before Divisionals, this week’s track meets took on added pressure. The Corvallis girls stepped it up at the Wayne Estes meet in Anaconda and powered their way to a 136 point win in the 13 team field.

Sadi Henderson won the 100 and the 200. Lakyn Connors won the 400 and the 100 hurdles. The 4×100 relay team and the 4×400 teams both won their races. Ayden Eickhoff won the 800 and Isabella Pape won the 3,200. Rounding out the Blue Devil wins were Jane Booth in the high jump and Kaitlynn Frost in the pole vault.

Hamilton’s Annika Moore jumped 34’8” in the triple jump to win that event. That jump is the second longest jump in Class A this year. Connors has the longest jump at 34’11”.

The Hamilton boys finished third behind Dillon and Manhattan. The Broncs were paced by wins from Anthony Schmalz in the 1,600 and Karille Appendaile in the 800 and two wins from Abe Westfall. Westfall won the triple jump and the high jump.

Brandon Butt won the discus for Corvallis with a throw of 157’ 6 1/2”.

Florence, Victor and Darby were at the final Seeley Invitational meet of the year in Missoula. The Florence girls won the team scoring and the boys finished fourth behind Charlo, Ronan/St. Ignatius, and Deer Lodge. Darby was fifth.

Brady Heffner finished first in the 100 for Florence and second in the 200. Madison Bolton won the 800 and was second in the 1,600. Carter Brady was second in the 400.

Darby’s Garrett McCormack finished third in the 800 and fourth in the 1,600. Matt Robbins was fifth in the 110 hurdles and sixth in the 300 hurdles.

Victor’s Zac Agee finished third in the triple jump and Nate Bishop was fifth. Wyatt Lyons tied for sixth in the shot put.

The Florence girls won their division. Hannah Porch won the 100 and the 200 meter sprints. It was Hannah Porch, Tess Porch, Hanna Sax and Callie Hunt that edged out Deer Lodge in the 400 relay race. Hannah Porch also finished second in the long jump and the triple jump. Sax finished second in the 100 hurdles and Tess Porch was fifth in the 300 hurdles. Hunt was second in the high jump and fifth in the triple jump. Sarai McCollum was third in the 100 and fourth in the 300 hurdles.

Keely Ehmann of Darby won the 400. Jessica Campbell was fourth in the discus.

Lianna Burdette finished sixth in the discus for Victor. Amber Ibey finished fifth in the high jump.
