Jerry and Dee Abbie did something wonderful for the Town of Darby this summer. They own property adjacent to Waincrist Park along a proposed extension of the town’s non-motorized trail, the Darby Trail of Discovery. The couple was approached by members of the trail committee to see if there was any interest on their part to allow the trail to be continued from Waincrist Park to Tin Cup Park using their land. After jointly identifying the proposed trail location with committee members, the Abbies generously agreed to donate an easement to the Town to allow trail construction to continue along its proposed route. Construction will begin in the spring of 2013 with the help of volunteers and grant monies. At the Abbies’ request, signs will be posted at both ends and intermittently along the way notifying trail users that the trail is located on private property and instructing them to stay on the trail.
In order to connect both town parks, the trail committee has requested a donated easement from the LDS Church and is awaiting word on its decision. Both easements have been identified as a vital link to complete the western section of the trail system.
