Dance theater presentation
Jon Turk, a Bitterroot resident and National Geographic Adventurer of the Year for 2012, is teaming up with Boston’s Weber Dance company, to bring “Synchronicity and the Sacred Space,” a dance theater presentation, to the Performing Arts Center in Hamilton on Wednesday, November 14, at 7 p.m.
“Synchronicity and the Sacred Space” is a modern dance piece, choreographed by Jody Weber and performed by her contemporary concert dance company.
It combines storytelling, movement, music, and images, and “probes the strange landscape where scientific thought encounters the unknown, and human perception and reality are fluid partners in an enigmatic dance,” according to Weber Dance.
It was a 2011 Boston Globe “Critic’s Pick,” and has toured several major cities.
The work arose from choreographer Jody Weber’s desire to build a dance piece around the conflict between western culture’s scientific, literal view of the world, and the more nuanced, fluid view of reality shared by some other cultures.
Turk’s book, “The Raven’s Gift,” describes his experience as a scientist who, in the course of a kayaking adventure, was healed of an old skiing injury by a shaman. Weber seized on his narrative as a perfect example of what she was envisioning, and built a dance piece around it.
Turk narrates, while images from his voyages form a backdrop for the three dancers.
Tickets for the performance are available on the Weber Dance website, http://www.weberdance.com, at Chapter One Book Store in Hamilton, or at the door. Tickets are $20.

Mrs. Emma Slack Dickenson (played by Evelyn Widhalm) and Madam Mary Gleim (played by Kim Kaufman) come together wondering themselves what they might have to talk about. Or a cut bank and cutt bow? All four are important to an angler, but two relate to fluvial morphology. Karin Boyd is an acknowledged leader in this area, and her main professional interests are determining how physical conditions and human influences collectively affect the form and behavior of river systems, and applying this information to develop strategies for remediation, restoration, and long-term resource management. She has worked in kangaroo-infested streams in Australia, snake-infested streams in Mississippi and bulldozer-infested streams in Montana. As the Bitterroot becomes increasingly developed, it will be important for anglers to understand these concepts to make informed judgments on stream projects. The public is invited to attend and there is no charge for admission. For more information, contact cassie.buhl@gmail.com or drtrout@mtbloom.net.
