Hamilton gets win over Blue Devils

 

The smoke lifted enough Friday night for the Corvallis Blue Devils to welcome Hamilton to their field for their Homecoming game and an intervalley rivalry. The Blue Devils nearly scored in the opening drive before being stopped by the Broncs inside the red zone. That would be the tale of the night. Every time the Blue Devils got within scoring range, the Broncs tightened their defense and kept the Devils at bay. Hamilton, meanwhile took advantage of mistakes and created opportunities to score. They went on to win, 35-0.

Hamtilton’s quarterback, Josh Bauder threw for four touchdowns and 270 yards. Matthew Turley added a rushing touchdown with a four yard plunge to the endzone. Bauder hit Kris Cleveland for a 70 yard scoring pass for the first score of the night. Reese Isherwood hit the PAT. Bauder’s next target for a score was Hunter Kerr from 15 yards out. The Isherwood PAT was good again. After Turley scored on his run, Bauder again went to the air. He hit Cleveland again from the 22 yard line. The final touchdown pass was to Teague Blome from seven yards out. Isherwood hit both PATs.

Corvallis had plenty of opportunities but couldn’t quite convert the opportunities into scores. “We made too many mistakes,” said Corvallis coach Russ Henderson. “Credit Hamilton, they played hard. We both had the same circumstances with the smoke, they were able to come through.”

Hamilton coach Travis Blome was pleased with his team’s efforts. “It was a hard played game,” he said. “I was very pleased with how our offensive line blocked. We were focused.”

Florence moved their ‘home’ game to Plains where they were hosts to St. Ignatius. The Falcons scored two touchdowns in each of the first three quarters to build and hold the lead. A safety in the third quarter capped the Falcons’ run as they handily won, 44-20. Tanner Cobbs started the Falcons off with a 28 yard scoring run. He then kicked the PAT. It was Cobbs again, this time from 17 yards out, for the second score of the night and he again kicked the PAT. Aaron Ward had a 15 yard scoring run in the second quarter and then Derek Brown made a 17 yard scoring run for the Falcons. In the third quarter, Brown rumbled 20 yards for six points and Cobbs again kicked the PAT. Bryce Cobb scored the final Falcon touchdown when he caught a 12 yard pass from Aaron Ward. A blocked punt in the St. Ignatius endzone resulted in a safety for Florence to end the scoring run. Florence improved to 4-0 and 1-0 in conference play.

Victor rolled over Lincoln, 62-8,  in another game impacted by the smoke. The game was originally scheduled to be played in Victor. Victor had 50 points on the board by half time and with the running clock after a 35-point margin is reached, the game flew by. Junior quarterback Matt Kittel threw for five touchdowns and completed 11 of 16 passes for 240 yards. Kittel hit Kyle Ball two touchdown receptions, one of 24 yards and the second of 55 yards. Ball also had an eight yard scoring run. Kittel went to the air to open the scoring with a four yard pass to Zac Agee. Agee also had a 15 yard scoring run in the second quarter. Corey Deering caught an eight yard pass for six and in addition, scored the two point conversion on a pass from Kittel. Kittle scored one rushing touchdown himself from three yards out. Victor’s final score was another Kittel pass from 34 yards out to Randy Miller.

Victor improved to 4-1 in conference play and now are in a three-way tie for second with Superior and Drummond. Charlo leads the conference with a 5-0 record.

Darby had to have their Homecoming game in Arlee as well. That game was play Friday night against Arlee. Arlee won, 40-18. Darby scored twice in the second quarter.  The first was when Dillon Knox caught a 22 yard pass from Mitch Wolf for the score. The second was when Joe Caicedo intercepted a Warrior pass and returned it for 44 yards and sixx points. Caicedo scored again on a 68 yard run to the end zone.
