Evacuation notice in effect for Sawtooth Fire

SAWTOOTH INFORMATION FACT SHEET

Date: September 10, 2012

Time:  2:30 p.m.

Incident: Sawtooth Wildland Fire

Information Phone: 406-363-3556, 7:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m.

Location: Sawtooth Fire is about 7 miles west southwest of Hamilton, MT

Incident Commander: Tom Heintz, Northern Rockies Type-II Incident Management Team

Special Release from Sawtooth Fire

The Incident Commander, Tom Heintz, has conferred with Ravalli County Law Enforcement and Fire Officials and recommended the initiation of Stage 2 Evacuation Notice.  The Notice is being delivered for the entire area described as follows:

All residential and commercial properties West of Westside Road;  All areas South of Paradise Trail and Blodgett Camp Road;  NightHawk Lane South, and roads that access off Night Hawk Lane; and areas North of North Gold Creek Loop.

Local Law Enforcement, Fire, and Emergency Management officials are in the process of alerting the residents within that area and the public in general.

Stage 2 Evacuation notice is the Request/Order and Security.  It means evacuation is necessary in order to protect the lives of area occupants and emergency personnel responding to the incident.  Law Enforcement personnel shall attempt to convey this order/request to citizens door to door, however if this not practical or possible this information may be delivered via a Public Address System from a patrol vehicle.  Should the latter method be employed the personnel will activate the emergency lights and siren on the vehicle.  Roadblocks and 24 hour patrols by law enforcement will be instituted to protect property within the evacuated area.

Additional Closures:  Sawtooth Creek Trail #123 remains closed due to fire activity.

Blodgett Campground is closed

Roaring Lion Trail #124 is closed

Canyo0n Creek Trail #525 is closed

Updated Information: The American Red Cross has established an evacuation center at the First Baptist Church at 345 Cooper Lane, Hamilton.  The phone number for the shelter is 363-3735.  The American Red Cross can also be 800-272-6668

Livestock from the evacuated area can be temporarily housed at the Ravalli County Fairgrounds. Owners are asked to check in at the Fairgrounds office upon arrival.
