Call for local producers
The Bounty of the Bitterroot show will be held Saturday, November 10 at the First Interstate Building at the Ravalli County Fairgrounds. This is a showcase for locally and regionally produced items of all kinds, including food, arts and crafts and more, and will be heavily publicized. Crisis Line volunteer training
Make a difference in the life of a victim of domestic or sexual abuse – become a SAFE Crisis Line Volunteer. Volunteers provide information and a listening ear to someone who’s been traumatized by domestic violence or sexual assault. Business Women’s Network
The monthly luncheon meeting of the Bitterroot Subnetwork of the Missoula Businesswomen’s Network is held from 12 noon to 1 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month at the Hamilton Perkins Restaurant. Come and meet a group of supportive women and get to know them through member spotlight presentations, educational topics, and the referral and promotion of each other’s businesses. ‘Monthly Grind’ variety show
The next Monthly Grind variety show will be held Saturday, October 20 at 7 p.m. at the Stevensville Playhouse. The $5.00 tickets are sold at the door so don’t be late. Community center survey
Community members have joined together to explore the possibility of developing a Community Center in Ravalli County. Research shows that community centers can be of great benefit to all ages. The group is trying to determine the level of interest in the center itself and in the programs that may be available through a center. Audubon calendar sale
The Bitterroot Audubon Society will be selling its 2013 calendar at the Hamilton Farmers Market. This one-of-a-kind calendar is by Bitterroot photographers of Bitterroot birds, with drawings by Bitterroot 3rd and 4th graders, plus “hot spots” where you can find particular birds in our valley. The cost is $15 and all proceeds go to the Bitterroot Audubon Education Fund. You can also find these unique calendars at Chapter 1 Book Store, Sam’s Spade and Art Focus in Hamilton; Darby Wine and Spirits in Darby; and Lisa Archer Silks in Stevensville.
Bitterroot Mushers raffle
The Bitterroot Mushers are having a fundraising raffle. The grand prize is a 14-mile dogsled ride with junior Iditarod finisher, Aiyana Ferraro. Other prizes include: a one night stay for two at Lost Trail Hot Springs Resort with two 1-day lift tickets to Lost Trail Powder Mountain, $50 gift certificate for Darby Distribution, $40 gift certificate to the Naughty Moose Restaurant, 1-hour session of Positive Changes LLC PUSH muscle therapy, and a gift basket from Darby Wine and Spirits. Canning jars needed
The Ravalli County Museum is looking for wide mouth pint jar donations for this year’s McIntosh Apple Day! The jars are used to sell hot, fresh made apple butter. BPL Used Book Sale
Attention all bibliophiles! The 2012 Annual Friends of the Bitterroot Public Library Used Book Sale is coming to the downstairs Community Room in the Bitterroot Public Library at 306 State St. in Hamilton September 25-29. The sale days will be Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The price for all items is $1.00 per inch thick. Saturday all day will be the ever-popular Bag Sale when all the items that can be stuffed in a grocery bag are $2.00 per bag – bring your own bags if possible. Another popular feature of the book sale is free books all week long outside on the sidewalk. On Saturday after 2 p.m. there will be a Truckload Sale – $15.00 per load! BPL Preschool Storytime
Preschoolers are invited to meet in the children’s corner of the Bitterroot Public Library on Wednesday, September 26 at 10:30 a.m. to enjoy “When We’re Helping We’re Happy” with storyteller Allison Jessop. Story time is designed for children 3-5 years of age. All story times are free and open to the public.
Classical guitar performance
As part of the month-long celebration of Hispanic Heritage, North Valley Public Library will host Opus II, a duet featuring Jan Jost and Barb Schumake who play classical Spanish guitar music. On Wednesday, September 26, Opus II will perform a variety of folk songs from South America and other Latin compositions from around the world. The performance will begin at 6:30 p.m. and will be held in the main library. Admission is free and all ages are welcome. Light refreshments will be served. Bitterroot Quilt Guild
The Bitterroot Quilt Guild will meet Wednesday, September 26 at 6:30 p.m. at Canyon View Church on Skalkaho Road, south of Hamilton. Visitors are always welcome. The Heritage Mini Group of the Bitterroot Quilt Guild will be presenting a special program. The group will be divided into four stations: (1) Vintage Sewing Items, (2) Quilt Care, (3) Restoration and Repair of older quilts, and (4) Dating Quilts. Each station presentation will last about ten minutes and then move to the next station. There will be books available for participants to look up fabric dates and pattern names. Women’s Network luncheon
The Ravalli County Economic Development Authority (RCEDA), though its Women’s Business Center, Sub-Center, program will be having its monthly Women’s Network for Entrepreneurial Training (WNET) brown bag lunch on Thursday, September 27 at 12 noon. The presentation will be “Library Resources for Entrepreneurs” with Trista Smith from the Bitterroot Public Library. Refuge hunter blind drawing
The hunter blind drawing and pre-hunting meeting for the opening weekend (September 29 & 30) of the 2012 waterfowl season on Lee Metcalf National Wildlife Refuge will take place on Thursday, September 27 at 6 p.m. in the Okefenokee Room of the Lee Metcalf NWR Headquarters/Visitors Center building on Wildfowl Lane. Anyone interested in hunting waterfowl on Lee Metcalf National Wildlife Refuge on opening weekend must attend. World renowned musicians Freebo and Jerry Donahue will perform on Thursday, September 27 from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Wild Mare, 283 Second St., Corvallis. The Victor Park District meets on the fourth Thursday of each

County Commissioner Greg Chilcott and Nancy Ballance, candidate for Montana House District 89, will be speaking at the South Valley Pachyderm Club meeting on Friday, September 28. Until Dark” is a spine tingling, fun thriller that will make you laugh and,

Trout Unlimited banquet
The Trout Unlimited Banquet will be held Friday, September 28 at 5 p.m. at the Bitterroot River Inn in Hamilton. This is the only fundraiser that BRTU holds. Banquet proceeds support the Bitterroot Buggers, fisheries intern, and stream protection and wild trout projects. This year TU is supporting the Casting For Recovery program that helps breast cancer survivors, and helping the Bitterroot Water Forum. So, please plan to attend and help us do all this and more!
Banquet premiums include float trips, tackle, clothing , backpacking gear, art, pottery, photographs, gourmet dinners, fine wines and much, much more. There will be live and silent auction, door prizes, drawings and awards.

Gardening workshop
On Saturday, September 29, organic grower Rod Daniel will conduct a free workshop, “Cover Crops and Green Manures.” This is the final installment in his Grow Your Soil series. Rod will discuss the benefits of legumes and other soil building plants, application rates and appropriate timing for sowing these crops. Methodist Harvest Dinner

FS Moon Walk series
For the 12th year, the Bitterroot National Forest and Bitter Root RC&D presents a series of interpretive Moon Walks from June to October. These free, educational walks are based on the book “Walk When the Moon is Full”, by Francis Hammerstrom about her children and the nature walks they took every month under the full moon.
On Saturday, September 29, “Bark Beetle Moon” will be held at Lake Como at 7 p.m. The presentation will be on the mountain pine beetle. Learn about the life cycle of these native insects, how to determine if they are present in a forest stand and forest management options for controlling their spread and impacts. Dress in layers and bring a lawn chair, flashlight and a jacket. Walk will start/end at Wood’s Cabin on north shore of the lake.
Jacket Blackout Run
A 5k Night Run/Walk and a 1-Mile Fun Run will be held Saturday, September 29 at 7 p.m. as a benefit for the Stevensville High School football and volleyball programs. The course will begin and end at the Stevensville high school football field, under the lights. There will be sparklers, glow sticks and marshmallows for roasting. This is an opportunity for community members and younger students to meet and mingle (and compete against) high school student athletes. The purpose of this event is to promote healthy, active lifestyles. So bring your headlamps and running shoes, dress in your black and gold and show your support. Hamilton School District mission/vision statement meetings

RML Community Liaison Group

Agenda items include: highlights from a “Science and the Arts” collaboration between RML, the Ravalli County Museum, local schools, and several area artists; status of RML construction projects and site improvements; recap of a recent RML conference involving U.S. and Brazilian scientists

The RML CLG includes representatives from local government, education, business, medical and emergency services, and community and civic groups. The RML CLG represents a long-term commitment to structured interactions with the community. The group began meeting in 2002.

Sons of Norway fundraiser
Bitterrootdalen Lodge, Sons of Norway, will hold its annual Bingo and White Elephant Auction on Tuesday, October 2 at 5 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Hamilton. The Lodge will provide a main dish, service and drinks, visitors and members are invited to bring a side dish, and an item for the White Elephant auction. Norwegian Bingo goes until all the game board spaces are filled and everyone has a supply of play money for the auction. As always, the general public is cordially invited.
Fly Fishers of the Bitterroot
The monthly meeting of FFB will be held Tuesday, October 2 at BJ’s Restaurant, in Hamilton. Social hour is 6 to 7 p.m. Cocktails and dinner are optional. This month’s speaker is FFB’s own Denny Westover. His presentation will be “Fly Fishing Argentina: Big Fish & Big Rivers.” Last time Denny spoke to the group it was standing room only, so get there early!
