Who’d of ever thunk it!

July 10, 2012 by Editor

The Supreme Court upheld Obamacare (mostly). Some complicated legalities, but, what else is new? I was interested in Romney’s “Repeal and Replace” response on the day of the decision. He said on day 1 that he would repeal it, and then listed all the things he’d replace – which was a list of everything already in Obamacare, except the personal mandate. Funny that he’d leave that out when that was the basis for Romneycare in Mass. Afterall, the idea came from the Heritage Institute, a conservative think tank. And it’s the basis of current Republican tax policy – expand the base to cut rates – which is exactly what it’s doing in Mass.

But that mandate. I guess nobody much likes being told what to do, especially by the government. But let’s see. Do you wear your seatbelt? Do you drive pretty close to the speed limit? Do you wear clothes when you’re out in public? That’s the gov’t. telling you what to do. But, you say, the difference is that if you don’t, you only get fined. Ah ha!

Well, supposing you’re basically law abiding and do all those things. No fines for you! But suppose that whenever somebody else got caught doing those things, you got fined $20. Huh! Well, that’s how our current health insurance works. Those with health insurance pay for those without it who just go to the Emergency Room.

Personally, I’d rather have everybody in and save some dollars. Besides, what is it you tell your kids? “How do you know you don’t like it, you haven’t even tried it yet!”
