Stevi All School Reunion
Coming up August 3rd and 4th is the 100th anniversary of the Stevensville Creamery Picnic. As part of the celebration, there will be an All School Reunion for anyone who attended or graduated from Stevensville High School. Out-of-state “Yellowjackets” should get your RVs and airline tickets reserved now. BPL Preschool Story Time
Preschoolers are invited to meet in the children’s corner of the Bitterroot Public Library on Wednesday, July 18 to enjoy “Painting the Night” with storyteller Jamie Ogden. Story time begins at 10:30 a.m. and is designed for children 3-5 years of age. Plan on some extra time to enjoy “Stay and Play” activities after story time. All story times are free and open to the public.
BPL Wild Wednesday
Are vampires real? Why do bats need it hot (110 degrees)? How many mosquitoes do they eat, and exactly how do they catch them? How many plants do they pollinate? Can bats really do puzzles and count to ten? Doc Wild knows! Denny Olson’s theatrical performances are both entertaining and educational. Learn some of the habits of bats – you’ll be glad you did! Wild Wednesday programs begin at 1:30 p.m. on the west lawn of the Bitterroot Public Library in Hamilton.
Bitterroot College Advisory Council
The Advisory Council for the Bitterroot College of The University of Montana will hold its monthly meeting on Wednesday, July 18 at 3 p.m. in Classroom 1 at the Bitterroot College facility located at 274 Old Corvallis Road in Hamilton. Daly Hospital blood drive
The American Red Cross strives to collect over 700 pints of blood to meet the needs of patients in this area alone. In the Montana service area every 27 minutes someone needs blood. Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital (MDMH) helps the American Red Cross meet this need by sponsoring blood drives four times a year. The next scheduled MDMH Blood Drive will be on Thursday, July 19 from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in Conference Rooms B/C. This year’s remaining MDMH sponsored blood drive will be held on October 4th. Back Country Horsemen
Bitter Root Back Country Horsemen host the second in their series of outdoor summer meetings on Thursday, July 19, at the Larry Creek Trailhead, located up Bass Creek Rd. Potluck dinner begins at 6:30 p.m. and the general meeting starts at 7 p.m. Guest speaker is the legendary packer Smoke Elser, who will talk about his adventures as an outfitter in the Bitterroot National Forest and surrounding areas. The July 14 McCart Lookout/Johnson Trail #435 trail project will also be discussed. North Valley Pachyderm Club

Accordion Assn. picnic/campout
The Five Valley Accordion Association will hold its annual picnic/camp-out on Friday and Saturday, July 20 and 21 at the American Legion Post in Stevensville. Live music by accordions, guitars, banjos, bass, and drums will be played on both Friday and Saturday afternoons and evenings. Guests are welcome to come join in on the music, dancing, fun, and fellowship. There will be potluck dinners on both evenings. The post is located on Middle Burnt Fork Road approximately 3 miles east of Eastside Highway, on the north side of the road. Dry camping is available for RVs, campers,and travel trailers on site. Bitterroot Floating Weed Pull
The Ravalli County Weed District is sponsoring the 6th annual Bitterroot Floating Weed Pull on Saturday, July 21. Volunteers will float down a stretch of the Bitterroot River, stopping along the way to pull state-listed noxious weeds. The day concludes with lunch, a short presentation, and a prize drawing. The float will start around 9 a.m. and finish around 2 p.m. Complete details on the stretch of the river that will be floated and parking will be given when participants register. Florence Bike Path Cleanup
The Florence Civic Club will hold a Bike Path Clean Up on Saturday, July 21 from 7 to 9 p.m. All citizens and groups are welcome to meet at Town Pump for a great time pulling weeds and beautifying Florence’s Bike Path. A fundraising event for Ravalli County Democratic candidates will be held Saturday, July 21 from 5 to 8 p.m. at 822 Sweathouse Creek Road. Get to know local Democratic candidates ‘Big’ Dave Smith, Pam Erickson and Peggy Steffes. Meet John Walsh, candidate for Montana Lt. Governor and Kim Gillan, candidate for US House of Representatives. Dexter Payne and the Lionel Young Band will provide musical entertainment. There will be a barbecue and libations featuring local organic foods from Lifeline Creamery (cheeses and beef), Lifeline Produce (salads), Mansfield-Smith Farm (organic lamb). Volleyball camp
Members of the University of Montana Grizzlies Volleyball Team will coach players at a camp hosted by the Victor Lady Pirates and held from Monday, July 23 through Wednesday, July 25. The camp, taking place at the Victor School Gym, is open to both high school and middle school volleyball players. Camp time for middle school players (incoming grades 6-8) is 9 a.m. to noon each day. Camp time for high school players (grades 9-12) is from 1:30 to 4:30 and 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Cost is $45 for middle school and $90 for high school camp. During July, the Hamilton Rotary Club is featuring the theme, “Ravalli County Emergency Preparedness.” Elizabeth Chilcote of CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) will be the speaker on July 23rd. NVPL Job Seeker Workshops
Attention all job seekers! Throughout the summer, the North Valley Public Library is hosting job search workshops presented by Gary Palmer of the Bitterroot Job Service.
The workshops will focus on building the “soft skills” that employers are seeking, like positive attitude and putting your best foot forward in the work place. You’ll also learn the do’s and don’ts of completing job applications and how to write excellent cover letters and resumes. Finally, Gary will provide you with tips on how to ace your interview and land the job you want. Workshops will be held on the following dates and times: Tuesday, July 24, 2 to 5 p.m.; Tuesday, August 14, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.; and Tuesday, September 18, from 4 to 7 p.m.

Book signing
Local author Dan Holland, the “Hughes Creek Poet,” will be reading and signing his new book on Tuesday, July 24 at 6 p.m. at the Darby Community Public Library conference room. Dan will read from his new book of historical fiction, “Saga of Hughes Creek, which was five years in the making. A retired Humanities professor of the University of Wisconsin, Holland has lived as a part time resident at Hughes Creek for the past fifteen years. This event is open to the public and everyone is invited to attend.

Acclaimed Seattle based impressionist painter Madi Adams will be opening her show at the Wild Mare in Corvallis on Thursday July 26. The reception will begin at 6 p.m. with music following by renowned folk singer/songwriter and fleet fingered guitarist Chuck Suchy. The show will run through August. WECAN Job Networking Events combine critical skills workshops with networking to help you accelerate your job search. This summer’s event will feature a workshop on speaking and interviewing skills. WECAN is a community-based, collaborative program that connects job seekers to employment and networking opportunities, in addition to financial education information. Participants will have the opportunity to connect with fellow community members, share information about jobs and training opportunities, and learn about the new WECAN Online Network at wecanmontana.org. Sports physicals
All male and female valley athletes in high school and middle school are invited to the Marcus Daly Rehabilitation Center on Thursday, August 2 or Wednesday, August 8 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. for their annual sports physical. Over the past six years, the annual sports physical program sponsored by Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital and the Medical Staff has raised nearly $50,000 for the valley’s school athletic programs. The cost is $25 per student and 100% of the proceeds will be donated back to the students’ school athletic program. Cash or check only, payment is due at the time of visit, no refunds. Enter the Marcus Daly Rehabilitation Center through the main entrance, located on the southwest end of Westwood Drive.
Sports physical forms are available from doctor’s offices or coaches, or online at www.mdmh.org. Parents must fill out and sign the sports physical form and accompany their child at the examination. Payment is expected at the time of the examination. The physical will include height, weight, blood pressure, pulse, vision, evaluations for posture, joints, strength, flexibility, heart, lungs, abdomen, ears, nose, and throat. For athletes experiencing skeletal pain, Dr. Jeremiah Clinton, Bitterroot Orthopedics & Sports Medicine, will have an exam area in the rehabilitation center for a brief exam and consultation. Students with chronic problems should be seen by their primary care provider.
