June 26, 2012 by Jean Schurman

The Bitterroot Bucs finished fourth in the Lewistown tournament on a windy Sunday after losing to the Gallatin Valley Outlaws, 8-7. Dustin Bierle was the pitcher and finished with four strikeouts, three walks, and seven hits. Kadin Beller was the catcher. Brad Schaff had a sac fly for an RBI and finished with two RBIs. He was 2-for-3 at bat. Dylan Reed went 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs.

The Bucs opened the Lewistown tournament on Thursday with a warm-up game against the Gallatin Valley Outlaws. They were ahead most of the game until the last inning when the Outlaws found the hole between the infield and the outfield and came from behind to win, 13-8. Schaff went 2-for-4 with a 2-run home run. Reed was 3-for-4 with 2 RBIs. Jared Schultz was the starting pitcher and finished with five strikeouts. Tommy Shepard came in and finished the game in the final inning. Beller was the catcher.

On Friday, the Bucs lost to the Lewistown Red Birds, 5-2. Schaff was the pitcher and struck out four and walked five batters. Reed went 1-for-3 and had an RBI. Riley Philips also had an RBI.

The Bucs had two games on Saturday. They first came up against the Calgary Red Birds and took a one run win. Philips was the pitcher and had 11 strikeouts without a walk. He had five hits. Beller was behind the plate, catching. Reed went 3-for-3 with an RBI. He made it on base every time he was at bat, including being hit by a pitch. Beller had an RBI double.

The Bucs were behind going into the fourth inning by one run. Tyler Thorson got on base for the Bucs due to a Calgary error. Logan Luck was hit by a pitch, which advanced Thorson. Reed hit a single to load the bases and Austin Nogel stepped up and hit a single to score Thorson and tie the game. Sage Hanson hit a lead off double in the fifth inning and then advanced to third on another Calgary error. Justin Medlan hit a single to earn the RBI when Hansen scored.

The Bucs then took on the Great Falls Stallions. Noah Baney allowed only one run in the nearly perfect game and struck out five. The Bucs won, 13-1, in a five-inning game. Baney had three RBIs and was 1-for-1 at bat. Philips went 1-for-2 with two RBIs.
