Children’s theater workshop
The Stevensville Playhouse is offering a Children’s Summer Workshop July 23-Aug 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day. There are openings for 15 children, ages 7-16. The workshop will include acting, set building, costuming and some lighting. Cost is $100 per child. For more information 360-9121.
Darby school summer meal program
The Darby School District is offering a Summer Food Service Program again this summer. From now until Friday, August 24, the lunch room will be serving breakfast and lunch Monday through Friday. The meals are for all children age 18 and younger at no cost. Breakfast will be served from 8 to 11 a.m. and lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 12 noon. Darby lunch room will be serving made from scratch items and local fresh fruits and vegetables. Breakfast and lunch is available to adults as well for a small cost. Darby Library story time
Children’s Story Time is held every Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Darby Community Public Library. Come listen to stories, sing songs, and play games in the library while preparing your toddler or preschooler for success in school. NVPL Music Makers
Music Makers with Melissa is held on Tuesdays from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the North Valley Public Library. Darby food bank collections
The Darby Bread Box is collecting canned fruit, tuna and sugar for the months of June and July. Items can be dropped off at People’s Market and the Bitterroot Credit Union in Darby. Any donation is appreciated.
Corvallis All Class Reunion
The tenth annual Corvallis All Class Reunion will take place Saturday, June 30 in the old high school gym. The reunion will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Corvallis Class C State Basketball Championship of 1962. Classes being specially honored this year are every 5th and 10th year classes, and any attendees from classes before the year 1962; 50th year class will be the honored guests. The first reunion honored the Class of 1932, with Madge Chaffin, and Buck and Donald Lamoreux as special guests. Two hundred and five people attended the 2011 reunion. This year the honored guest will be Dorothy Engler Smith. There will be tours of the school from 2 to 4:30 p.m. with guides available. Get reacquainted from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at a free social and photo taking in the old gym from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m. Cost is $12 per person in advance or $15 at the door. Handicapped accessibility to the gym is at the northwest entrance. Blue Devil t-shirts will be for sale. A 50-50 drawing will be held, with proceeds going toward the annual scholarship. Preschoolers are invited to meet in the children’s corner of the Bitterroot Public Library on Wednesday, June 6 to “Enjoy the Outdoors” with storyteller Donna Twedt. Story time begins at 10:30 a.m. and is designed for children 3-5 years of age. All story times are free and open to the public.
NVPL Storytime
All ages are welcome on Wednesday, June 6 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. for the first Wondrous Wednesday event at the North Valley Public Library. Democrat County Convention
The Ravalli County Democrats are calling for their 2012 County Convention and Delegate Selection for the Democratic National Convention to be held on Thursday, June 7 at 6 p.m. at River Street Theater, 421 N. 2nd, Hamilton. Local Democrats will caucus for the purpose of electing county delegates to be sent to the Montana Democratic Party’s Delegate Selection Convention in Helena, Friday and Saturday, June 8 and 9. Those elected in Helena as Montana Delegates will travel to the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina in September 2012.
All Democrats who are registered to vote in Ravalli County are invited to participate in this process. All Democrats, including members of minority groups, are encouraged to attend and be part of the County Convention. There is no cost to participate. The location for the convention is accessible to Democrats with disabilities. Museum presentation
“Animal Tales: Spirits and Legends Come to Life” will be presented Thursday, June 7 at 6 p.m. at the Ravalli County Museum, 205 Bedford, Hamilton. The presentation will include live animals. Listen to Native Peoples’ stories and then see them come to life when Animal Ambassadors demonstrate the tales in true 3D! Learn the lessons that helped teach the next generation about honor, respect, and danger. Why should you never kill a spider? What is Turtle Island? How did kangaroo get her pouch? Some lessons are still in use today, and some stories help bring to light an animal’s unique qualities. The Animal Ambassadors of Animal Wonders bring the stories to life and teach how and why the native peoples passed down so many legends about the wild animals that shared the land. Montana Mule Days
Mark June 8-10 on your calendars and head for the Ravalli County Fairgrounds in Hamilton for Mule Days. With over 100 classes for youth, adults and juniors, there is something for everyone. There will be Chariot Racing, Packers Scramble, Gymkhana, Driving, Cattle Events, and Showmanship plus a nice array of commercial vendors. Knute’s Kustom Mule Kompany will be there with their yearling molly mule to raffle. Those tickets are $1.00. Admission to the event is $5.00 per day or $10.00 for the three days. South Valley Pachyderm Club

Peacock Strut
The Stevensville Playhouse is hosting the 2nd Annual Peacock Strut, an all-male beauty pageant, on Friday June 8. The North Valley Old Pickup Show will be held Saturday, June 9 in Florence. Show off your classic (1940s-1980s) Bitterroot farm and firewood pickup with friends and neighbors at the first-ever North Valley Old Pickup Show, featuring hard-working American trucks, the veterans that have kept on hauling through good times and bad. Prizes will be awarded for oldest, best preserved, best restored, best representative Bitterroot work truck (by make), best modified, and Bucket of Bolts Award for the sorriest looking old beater that can still make it to the show under its own power. Cleveland POP benefit
Help Stevensville graduate Russ Cleveland peddle across the United States in the Peddle Off Pounds (POP) fight against childhood obesity. There will be a bake ride, barbecue, bazaar and rummage sale, games by Boy Scout Troop 117 and music on Sunday, June 10 at 11 a.m. at the Three Mile Store, 899 Three Mile Creek Road. All proceeds will go towards Cleveland’s fundraising bicycle trip from Ocean Shores, WA to Gloucester, MA.
Accordion jam session
The Five Valley Accordion Association will hold its next jam/dance session on Sunday, June 10 at the “Rustic Hut” in Florence. Stevi pool opening
The Stevensville Pool will re-open for the summer season on June 11. Swim lesson sessions will begin June 18 and there will be three sessions this year to choose from and sign-ups begin the 11th at the pool. Stevensville Pool prides itself with a mix of experienced lifeguards and some newcomers securing the future of the pool. Stevensville Pool has been in operation for over 50 years and gives the community a safe and fun place to spend a summer day. Managers are Melissa Henderson and Laura Frazee.
Babysitter Boot Camp
Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital is offering Babysitter Boot Camp. This is a 5-day boot camp that begins on Monday, June 11, held daily from 9 a.m. to 12 noon and is located in conference room C. Babysitter Boot Camp is for children ages 11-13 years old and includes an array of instructors including an Emergency Medical Technician, Police Officer, Fireman, Infectious Disease Nurse, and others. During this camp the future babysitters will learn safe and nurturing child care techniques, behavior management skills, and appropriate responses to medical emergencies. Each day has a different focus; Monday is expectations of babysitter, Tuesday is safety and nutrition, Wednesday is first-aid and hand hygiene, Thursday is CPR training, and Friday is quiz and wrap up. So many veterans feel confused about benefits and services they’ve earned. There’s so much to know, and so many changes from one year to the next. That’s why the nonprofit Disabled American Veterans (DAV) offers help. The DAV Mobile Service Office will be at the VA Missoula Clinic, 2687 Palmer Street, Missoula on Tuesday, June 12 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. to personally provide the best counseling and claim filing assistance available. Community Band concert
The 29th Summer Season of the Bitterroot Community Band is set to start with rehearsals beginning on Tuesday, June 12, at 7 p.m. in the Hamilton High School Bandroom.
