The Darby boys, behind Doug Raymer’s triple win in the distance races, brought home the team championship at the Jim Johnson Invitational Meet at Dornblaser Field in Missoula last Thursday. Victor followed right behind in second place. The event featured 13 Class C schools and two Class B schools, Deer Lodge and Fairfield.
Raymer took first in all of the distance events, the 800, 1,600, and 3,200. The second place finishers in each of the three races were also from Darby. Raymer clocked a 1:59.98 in the 800. Jeremy Campbell, also of Darby, was second with a time of 2:05.71. In the 1,600, Raymer finished in 4:35.45. Sean Hansen was second with a time of 5:02.55. Raymer’s 3,200 time was a blistering 10:02.54, however that was the day the wind was really howling and may have aided his time just a bit. Hansen was second with a time of 11:09.55. Campbell and Raymer, along with Dylan Knox and Cougan Kidd also won the 1,600 relay by more than three seconds over Hot Springs. It was Knox, Blake Kormanick, Ryan Millage and Storm Wanstrath who put together a winning race in the 400-meter relay.
There were a few other Tigers who also scored in the meet. Campbell won the high jump with the bar at 5’10”. Tyler Morris tied for sixth in the 200. Garrett McCormack was fifth in the 800 and the 1,600 races. Colton Johnson finished second in the discus with a throw of 122 feet. Joe Caicedo finished third in the shot put and Devin Thomas was fifth in the long jump.
Victor’s Kyle Ball won the triple jump with a leap of 42’7”, and he won the 300 hurdles. The junior also tied for sixth in the 100, was third in the high jump and fourth in the long jump. Kurt Manely moved from the javelin to the shot put and claimed that event with a put of 42’7”. Tyler Coorough was second in the long jump, fourth in the 200, third in the 400, and third in the triple jump. Bryce Krout tied for sixth in the pole vault
Shai Scheffer of Victor was second in the 100 hurdles and third in the 300 hurdles. She also placed third in the 100 and third in the long jump. Katie Brittle was fourth in the triple jump and fifth in the long jump. Other Pirates who placed were Julie Elkinton who took fifth in the pole vault and Naomi Liechty who finished sixth in the shot put.
The Stevensville boys won the TNT Meet at Frenchtown on Saturday. The Yellowjackets topped host Frenchtown by eight points to claim the team title. Josh Lords clocked a 22.9 in the 200 to take that race and have the unofficial fastest time in Class A right now. He was second in the 100. Lords also ran a leg on the 400-relay team that tied with Loyola for first place and was second in the long jump. Teammate Jadin Casey won the triple jump with Austin Lords following behind in second place. Casey was third in the 110 hurdles, sixth in the long jump, and fourth in the high jump.
Stevensville had several more athletes who contributed to the win. Carson Stevens took sixth in the 100 and third in the long jump. Austin Lords was fifth in the 800 and the 1,600 and then finished second in the triple jump. Chris Lords was fourth in the 400 and tied for sixth in the high jump. Wes Porter finished third in the 100 and fourth in the 200. Jesse Sims was fifth in the 200 and then went to the throwing events where he finished second in both the shot put and the discus. Oliver Kultgen was fifth in the high jump and third in the triple jump. Matt Pendergast finished fourth in the 300 hurdles.
Darby was also at that meet. Raymer once again dominated at the 800 and 1,600-meter races. He clocked a 1:59.9 in the 800. That was six seconds faster than Campbell’s second place finish. In the 1,600, Raymer’s was 4:31.0, 14 seconds faster than second place. Campbell finished second in the high jump. Hansen was third in both the 1,600 and the 3,200. Matt Robbins finished fifth in the 300 hurdles. Kidd placed third in the javelin, Colton Johnston was third in the discus and Caicedo was fifth in the shot put.
On the girls’ side, Stevensville had solid performances from Katie Malachinski and Cassidy Pearson. Malachinski won the high jump and was second in the triple jump and the 100meter hurdles. Pearson was fourth in the long jump and fifth in the triple jump. Alecia Hoombeek was third in the 400.
For Darby, Abrahamsen finished second in the 1,600. Heidi Heiland was fifth in the javelin and third in the discus. The 400-relay team finished third and the 1,600-relay team was fourth.
Florence was at the Seeley Invite in Missoula on Saturday. The boys’ team finished second behind Choteau. Dylan Reynolds won both the 110 hurdles and the 300 hurdles. He also ran the first leg of the 1,600-meter relay that finished first. Reynolds was second in the long jump and the triple jump. Joining Reynolds on the 1600 relay team were Brady Heffner, Brady Bloomquist and Madison Bolton. Bloomquist was third in the 400. Bolton finished second in the 1,600 and the 3,200. Ryan Mangun was fifth in the triple jump. Tanner Cobbs was fifth in the 110 hurdles.
On the girls’ side, Tess Porch notched a couple of wins for the Falcons. Tess Porch won the 100 and the 200. Her sister, Hannah, took the top spot in the triple jump with a leap of 33-1. Hannah Porch was also second in the 200 and the 400 and Tess was fourth in the 400. Hanna Sax was sixth in the 100 and the 300 hurdles, and fifth in the 100 hurdles. Florence took second in the short relay. In the throwing events, Rosie O’Brien was fourth in the javelin and Jessica Desjarlais was fourth in the discus. Callie Hunt tied for fifth in the high jump and was sixth in the triple jump.
Victor’s Kurt Manely won the javelin with a throw of 170’8”. Julie Elkinton was sixth in the pole vault.
