Expanded recycling options

March 27, 2012 by Editor

At long last we have started the recycling of cardboard from our Old Corvallis Road site. After more than a year of delays, the grant money to purchase a recycling compactor truck has been released and our truck is purchased and operational. Right now we are taking just flattened corrugated cardboard (no cereal boxes yet). When you arrive at the recycling yard, take the far right drive-through and unload your flattened cardboard directly into the compactor truck (or into our secondary trailer if truck is full). With the longer daylight, we will be open Monday at 3 p.m. and close promptly at 6 p.m.
If you have more than a small pickup load of cardboard, we would appreciate a call in advance (375-0234 or 363-6391) and we can conveniently arrange a special drop-off time for you.
For those of you who have followed the cardboard recycling story so far, you will appreciate what a big step forward the compactor truck is. Basically, the truck allows us to much more efficiently transport recycled material, and helps insure the sustainability of our public recycling service. RCR is one of the first recycling organizations in Montana to recycle cardboard in this manner.
With the cardboard problem largely solved, RCR has been able to focus on other aspects of recycling:

1.     An Improved Website – We are in the final stages of a brand new website which will be a convenient source of news on recycling hours, material accepted, and other recycling information.  The website will be linked to our Facebook page – be sure and visit and “Like” us!

2.     Expanded Hours – in the very near future we hope to be able to offer a Saturday morning drop-off time

3.     Metals buying – Once we have a scale, mobile office, and storage (all in progress) we intend to offer the purchase of recyclable non-ferrous metals

4.     Membership in RCR – Soon you will be able to join RCR as a voting member. As you know we are a non-profit organization and our goal is to operate as a democratically-run cooperative. Joining RCR will be a way to directly support RCR with your membership contribution.

Look for news on all these subjects and more in the coming weeks. And once again, thanks so much for your participation in recycling – it is what keeps us going!
