Corvallis wrestlers Southwest A champs

The Corvallis Blue Devils won the Southwest A Divisionals in Anaconda on Saturday with a decisive showing. It was their fifth championship in six years. They scored a whopping 293.5 points while second place Dillon had 161.5. Anaconda was third with 124 and Hamilton finished with 117.5 points. Butte Central brought up the rear with 60 points.

The Blue Devils brought home eight championships and will be sending 18 wrestlers on to the state tournament in Billings this week. Corvallis senior Travis Davis won his fourth divisional championship. Riley Nagel was also going for a fourth divisional championship but lost to Dillon’s Dilan Starkel and finished second. Austin Atkins, who has seen limited time this season, won the heavyweight bracket with a pin over Dillon’s Donovan Hucke.

Hamilton will be sending 10 wrestlers on to state. Forest Fortney was the only Bronc to win a divisional championship. He pinned Corvallis’ Monty Jessop at 189 to take the win.

Jake Lenegar, Dil, 8-0; 152 – Quincy Jessop, Cor, pinned Ethan Reich, Ana, 2:32; 160 – Dilan Starkel, Dil, maj. dec. Riley Nagel, Cor, 12-4; 171 – Jesse Nelson, Dil, pinned Tyler Scheffer, Ham, 2:45; 189 – Forest Fortney, Ham, pinned Monty Jessop, Cor, 1:09; 285 – Austin Atkins, Cor, pinned Donovan Hucke, Dil, 1:37.

Florence competed at the Western B-C in Philipsburg. They finished in fourth place behind Ronan, Eureka and Thompson Falls. The Falcons picked up three championships. Torren Lawson pinned Superior’s Anthony Parkin for the 98 pound championship. Tanner Lund took an 8-2 decision over Ronan’s Brandon Dumont. Tanner Cobbs won a 7-4 decision over Albert Plant of Arlee.
