The Hamilton girls’ soccer team will have a road trip to Billings this weekend where they will meet defending state champion Billings Central in the championship match. Hamilton advanced after topping Whitefish in a shootout. The match was tied at the end of regulation play. After two overtime periods, the match went to a shootout format where each team takes five shots at the goal. Hamilton, who shot second, hit all five of their shots while Whitefish missed their first shot. That was the difference in the 1-1 match.
Whitefish scored at the 50 minute mark when Natalie Gayner scored. Hamilton came back 11 minutes later and scored when Bri Huggans took a Meghan Kratofil assist and booted the ball into the net. Keepers Marina McGourty and Martial Rall had 15 and 2 saves respectively. Hamilton took 17 shots on goal. Whitefish had 20 shots on goal. Whitefish had one yellow card and their coach received a red card.
The Hamilton boys also had a shootout but the outcome wasn’t in their favor. The Broncs battled Polson to a 1-1 tie at the end of regulation. However Hamilton only hit one shot while Polson missed on and hit three.
Cody Tredik scored a goal at the 12-minute mark for the Broncs to tie the match. Polson’s James Larson hit the net at two minutes for their goal. Hamilton had 14 shots on goal but Polson’s keeper had six saves. Hamilton had two saves. They finished their season with a 10-2-2 record.
The Hamilton girls will play at 10 a.m. on Saturday in Billings.
